[quote="Wikipedia"]Little River Band are an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1975 and named after a road sign for the Victorian township of Little River, on the way to Geelong. They were the first Australian rock group to enjoy sustained commercial success in the United States. During their career the band have sold more than 25 million records and scored 13 American Top 40 hits.

Crazy, huh? Well, as someone doomed to spend eternity on a desert island with one Little River Band song, you at least have a range to choose from.

By the way, if the Little River band comes to your local state fair, it's probably just an imitation: The group today is a bunch of Nashville session musicians. The dark-haired gruff voiced singer and falsetto guy with the stringy hair and glasses, who we know from most of their hits, are long gone from the band, which seems typically convoluted for successful vocal bands with multiple singers. I'm pretty sure they split by the time "Playing to Win" came out in 1985 under the name "LRB"; I included it as a choice if only to demonstrate to people who hear a schmaltzy 70s piano ballad and think "It can't get worse than this" that it can and it will.

Your choices (write in one if you like).

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

Actually, my favorite Little River Band song is 'Home on Monday.' I have no idea why, but when I think of these guys this is the first song I think of.

I liked "Lonesome Loser" in 4th grade, so I have to go with that.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

"Lonesome Loser" frustrated my 14-year-old lonesome loser self when I tried to follow the instructions.

Sit down!

I'm sitting.

Take a look at yourself!

I'm looking. Not liking what I'm seeing.

Don't you want to be somebody?!

Yes! I totally want to be somebody!

Someday somebody's gonna see inside!

That would be a relief. I hope it's somebody nice and not mean. I think maybe I have nice things on the inside.

You have to face up!

Wait, face up to what? You're being ambiguous, Litter Rivle Band. What am I not facing up to?

You can't run and HIDE!!!

Face up to WHAT???!!!!

"Lady" begins with a similar set of instructions

Look around you
Look up here

I'll pass because I can't take thinking about Bread and the Little River Band in the same week.

New rule.

Those who don't vote get TWO songs on their Desert Island Mix Tape by the band they didn't vote for: The consensus winner as well as one of the songs that don't get any votes.

I'll take Reminiscing.

I'm embarrassed by how many of these songs I know.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

Give me "Cool Change."

I can't believe how little of this sounds familiar-- I mean, it's before my time, so on one hand it makes complete sense, but... considering how much Climax and Seals and Crofts I've got jammed in my head, it's strange.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

On a desert island, I'd likely lose track of time, so if it has to be any interval in a given week, it might as well be Friday night, late...that is to say, "Reminiscing".

Sadly, this song takes me back to September 1978 and the MFYs attempting to hold off the BoSox after having nearly destroyed them. Yet I like it anyway.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

I'm surprised how few strandees chose "Help is on Its Way" with its theme of help being on its way and all.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

"Cool Change" might torture me with the idea of sailing on cool clear waters, when my boat is in fact sunk, but I chose it anyhow.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

In order not to get stuck having two of these guys songs on my desert island I listened to bits of all the clips. God, I hate this band. I'd rather listen to Bread. I went for "Happy Anniversary" since I have no history of knowing or hating that song and it sounded no better or worse than the rest.

You can bet that if I had three testicles that would be what I would name them.

IF I had three, that is. Ahem.

Re: Desert Island Mix Tape: Reminiscing!

I've never heard this band or any of these songs before. Sounds like yacht rock at its worst.
