IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 19 2010 10:46 AM |
I figure this is fair game after another mojo-smashing Metiquette error spoiled our 4th straight winning streak at 1-game. Niese faces sophomore Randy Wells. Ike may or may not be in the lineup?
|
Edgy DC Apr 19 2010 10:59 AM Re: IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets |
Metiquette Rule #1, folks. Somebody starts an In-Game Thread, and it's a winner (there have been few enough of these), let him or her start the next one. Out of gratefulness, if onthing else. Oh, and GO, IKE!

|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 19 2010 11:22 AM Re: IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets |
I was trying to lobby for 17, which would require Tatis switches, but someone on the website suggested 3, so as to make the infield 1-3-5-7, not bad. Davis was wearing 20 in Buffalo Of the "availables," 9 is more likely in my estimation.

Benjamin Grimm Apr 19 2010 11:40 AM Re: IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets |
6 would be nice. He'd nestle right between Wright and Reyes. (Numerically, not physically. Or maybe both.) Number 6 would be good for a guy who looks like Steve Garvey. And it's also Stan Musial's number. And maybe it will keep Wally Backman from becoming the Mets manager.

[quote="Benjamin Grimm":3hmwlxdk]I just told you! Steve Garvey wore number 6![/quote:3hmwlxdk] Ike was born March 22, 1987. Garvey's Pads had a series in Chicago against Ron Davis' Cubs July 21-23, 1986, so for your theory to hold water, Ike would have had to have been born (conditional present perfect imperative?) at least one month premature. But there's probably a better way to welcome the guy to the Mets than to insult his mother.

Kevin Burkhardt talking with Jim Robinson, who was in the Negro League from 1952-1958. I have two comments. 1) The Negro League lasted until 1958? I had no idea. I was sure it dissolved way before then. 2) I could listen to old ballplayers tell stories all day long.

I once met one of the last players, who seemed kind of young to me. He explained that there were teams that went into the 1960s, but certainly not on the scale from that they once were. Gwreck Apr 19 2010 09:38 PM Re: IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets |
Crowd has really turned on Gary Matthews Jr. I thought the double-switch bringing him in the game was totally unnecessary, particularly as it worsened defense. Saw only one "I Like Ike" sign but there could've been more. Along with not having a lot of crowd noise, there doesn't seem to be a lot of places in CF to hang banners or signs (or people aren't bringing them like they used to).

Nice night to meet our latest savior. Whether this was the beginning of the Ike Davis Era or just the night Ike Davis debuted, a marvelous introduction. Agreed with Gwreck on GMJ. Why he should be the target as opposed to almost everyone else...why ask why? Try Ike Dry. TMF and I sampled McFadden's. Very loud. Even louder than Ike's bat, so you know it's loud.

Maybe we put an original spin on it: pelt any young/rookie PoTG with unsold Shack-cago Dogs. Because nothing says "I'm a winner" like being slapped in the face with a big box of wieners.
