IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets

John Cougar Lunchbucket

I figure this is fair game after another mojo-smashing Metiquette error spoiled our 4th straight winning streak at 1-game. Niese faces sophomore Randy Wells. Ike may or may not be in the lineup?

Metiquette Rule #1, folks. Somebody starts an In-Game Thread, and it's a winner (there have been few enough of these), let him or her start the next one. Out of gratefulness, if onthing else. Oh, and GO, IKE!

Re: IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets

I was trying to lobby for 17, which would require Tatis switches, but someone on the website suggested 3, so as to make the infield 1-3-5-7, not bad. Davis was wearing 20 in Buffalo Of the "availables," 9 is more likely in my estimation.

6 would be nice. He'd nestle right between Wright and Reyes. (Numerically, not physically. Or maybe both.) Number 6 would be good for a guy who looks like Steve Garvey. And it's also Stan Musial's number. And maybe it will keep Wally Backman from becoming the Mets manager.

Talking to MLBTR's Ben Nicholson-Smith, I learned that teams can now safely promote minor leaguers for their MLB debuts with no chance of the player amassing 172 days of service in 2010. By promoting '08 first-rounder Ike Davis today, the Mets ensured that he will be under team control through 2016 instead of 2015. In contrast, the Braves have Jason Heyward through '15.

Crowd has really turned on Gary Matthews Jr. I thought the double-switch bringing him in the game was totally unnecessary, particularly as it worsened defense. Saw only one "I Like Ike" sign but there could've been more. Along with not having a lot of crowd noise, there doesn't seem to be a lot of places in CF to hang banners or signs (or people aren't bringing them like they used to).

Re: IkeGT 4/19: Cubs @ Mets

Nice night to meet our latest savior. Whether this was the beginning of the Ike Davis Era or just the night Ike Davis debuted, a marvelous introduction. Agreed with Gwreck on GMJ. Why he should be the target as opposed to almost everyone else...why ask why? Try Ike Dry. TMF and I sampled McFadden's. Very loud. Even louder than Ike's bat, so you know it's loud.

'Hawkman'. I like it. 'Caw! Caw!'

I should use that for his UMDB mug shot.

The Yanquis did the pie in the face thing last year so I think that means no one is allowed to use it anymore except them. Either that or they have to pay royalties. I'm sure one of the columnists will straighten out the matter by accusing the Mets of having no originality on account of their adopting this NYY-invented ploy.

Maybe we put an original spin on it: pelt any young/rookie PoTG with unsold Shack-cago Dogs. Because nothing says "I'm a winner" like being slapped in the face with a big box of wieners.
