What would Sterling's calls for his HRs be?

"It's maas-terful."

"it's a home run for Kevin, and the pitcher says No Maas!"
"Ohhh, Kevin killed it!"

Anyhow we did live through Kevin Maas again when the Yanks were good: Remember the September of Shane Spencer?

HahnSolo's ponderings in the Francoeur thread got me thinking how Sterling would call the Mets.

Bring out your best cheese!

Like Grimm, I'm completely unaware of what a game called by Sterling sounds like. Having a taste of it, I'm happy to remain blissfully ignorant.

I'm sure I'd cringe if I heard this person call Yankee HRs too. But I wouldn't care how badly a Mets announcer called the homers as long as he had plenty of opportunities to call them.

At any rate, this thread made my day.

It's not just the home run calls, or the homerism... it's the fact that the HR calls are but the tip of a gigantic iceberg of shtick. His game-calling is largely about him and the story he/the MFYs have decided upong, not about the actual game.

He's unfunny, and he's kinda moralistic, and-- above all-- he's shtick-ier than Jackie Mason doing Henny Youngman jokes while waggling Groucho eyebrows and an exploding cigar. On a cruise ship called the "Lady of the Catskills."

Yeah maybe a little, but Hagin actually sees more that's actually going on than Sterling. And of course, the pairing with Howie makes it better.

I'm pretty sure that if this were an actual quiz, MH, you'd have gotten, like 75% of the actual, straight-outta-his-hacky-noggin calls right. (There's no WAY he passes on "JOSE, CAN YOU SEE," e.g.)

Re: Oh, Susan, let's Sterlingize the Mets!

Sorry, folks, but the Libra in me is forcing me to provide some balance to the Sterling discussion.
I remember when my Nets played in the ABA, and Sterling was the announcer.
He coined a phrase that was later stolen by Marv Albert (after the ABA/ NBA merger) and Marv is now thought of as the originator of the phrase.
Sterling was the first announcer to say a three point field goal attempt was shot from "downtown".

Even a blind dog hits an occasional fire hydrant.
I gott'a give him that one.

We now return this thread to his Yankee foolishness and your resultant nausea.

Re: Oh, Susan, let's Sterlingize the Mets!

I've been trying hard to forget it, but it has forced its way into my consiousness and then to this thread.
Listening to a WCBS radio sports report a while ago, I heard Sterling call a home run by Curtis Granderson by singing "The Grandy Man can, The Grandy Man can".

There.
It is now out of me.
Now maybe I can forget it.
