Which is weirder?

- that a spewing volcano on a fairly remote island land can combine with a particular weather/wind pattern to cripple virtually an entire continent's air travel?
or
- that that an actual language exists which names, and apparently has a pronunciation for, the volcano as 'Eyjafjallajokull' ?

I was surprised to see the president's trip to the Polish president's funeral called off. I was thinking, "You're in Air Force One. You don't follow the routes of commercial traffic. Fly through the Canaries. Fly up from Africa. Fly west through Russia. Can't that plane land backwards during a tornado? Let's see it."

This has caused more havoc to the airline industry than 9/11. No flights out of Ireland until 1pm Monday......at least that's what they think now....they suspect it will be days more.

Those are the kinds of words that used to be formed when a typesetter dropped the tray of letters.

I would like to see them try the tornado thing.

Soccer superstar Fernando Torres of Liverpool and Spain traveled 17 hours by road and train from Liverpool to Barcelona to have knee surgery that will keep him out for six weeks, he'll have two weeks to get ready for Spain's opening WC game June 16.

WWE wrestlers traveled from France to Ireland by road and ferries , a journey that took the best part of a day...NYC estimates it will lose some $250 million on lost revenue.

Airlines are reportedly losing between $250 million and $300 million per day.

Before long, that can add up to real money.

You know they'll be crying for bailouts soon.

They should sue the Icelandic government for not properly restraining their volcano.

Really questioning my decision to make reservation on Iceland Air for our trip to Amsterdam next month.

It's not the airline's fault that the volcano blew.

Re: Which is weirder?

Are you changing planes in Iceland? That could complicate things if the volcano is still erupting.

Re: Which is weirder?

More chaos today over there as eruptions from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano intensified. I was listening to some "experts" in aviation on Irish radio yesterday and one point they both made was that in Europe of course each country has it's own aviation agency and they make decisions based on their air space.

WWE had to cancel their show in Jersey , stuck in Ireland. A few dozen stranded French tourists were guests at Citi Field last night.

Willets , I hope things are cleared up when you travel.

Yes that's my concern. Not blaming it on the airline for being from a country with a large volcano.
