This Mets run reminds me of when Piazza was a Met and they would do this.

Fuckin' hell mets.com! You gave me a heart attack. The front page headline right now reads "Mets deal Majors ERA leader Pelfrey." After CPR, I read further to realize that somehow the headline writer is using the word "deal" to mean "starting today's game" instead of "trading to another team." Jesus H. Christ!!

How the fuck did he think readers would react to that? Um, other than reading the full story I guess. That's his /her job. Never mind. Later

Perhaps because a lot of pitches in one inning can be also be damaging, and because he's shown himself to be ineffective and needed a new perspective. I mean, there's certainly plenty of precedent for removing a guy after a disatrous inning, and his turn had come in the lineup, and the manager has an obligaton to try and bat his team back into the game.

Re: Mayday I.G.T. 5/1 Mets @ Phillies 3:10

Halladay's getting the Jordan treatment from the umps now (as Wright gets the umpire jumping down his throat for questioning a call). That bitching after the top of the fourth seems to have worked. I'm not saying the Pelf hook is without precedent-- I just think it's wrong. I also think I'd swallow the "hitting their way back into it" rationale for pulling Pelf a bit easier if Sargelet weren't hitting like Pelf-with-an-inner-ear-infection.

Re: Mayday I.G.T. 5/1 Mets @ Phillies 3:10

Matthews is on the roster. If they have to keep him out of a 6-0 game because he's not hitting well, what's the point? No repurcussions will come from getting Pelfrey out of the game.

You really have to wonder about the management over at WFAN, and what kind of team they're running.

Re: Mayday I.G.T. 5/1 Mets @ Phillies 3:10

This is one of those games where I invoke my adage that if you're going to not hit, and going to not pitch, and going to not field, you might as well not do them all at the same time. An occasional one of these is better than the games where you beat yourself up playing the 'what if' game with a handful of plays. Yeah, if Reyes & Cora hold onto those little flares there in the 4th maybe the whole thing plays out differently but, then again, we'd still have to score at some point. The handful of balls we did hit hard mostly ended up as at'em balls. And oh yeah ... IMPEACH ASHIE!
