Evocative Names (1970s Edition)

Picking up from the other thread, these are some of the more evocatative names to be found on 70s baseball cards. In this category, I have to leave off good Metly names (sorry, Nino Espinosa and Brock Pemberton) and many common Met opponents (Ivan DeJesus, not your day) because familiarity robs them of their exoticism. So my list probably leans heavily toward American Leaguers.

Kurt Bevacqua
John Bocabella
Lyman Bostock
Tom Hilgendorf
Sixto Lezcano
Lynn McGlothen
Roger Metzger
George Mitterwald
John Montefusco
Blue Moon Odom
Nyls Nyman
Biff Pocaroba
Chuck Scrivener
John Wockenfuss

You couldn't help finding these guys in your pack and saying, "Wonder what his deal is."

Re: Evocative Names

I remember as a young card collector obsessing over odd-named fellows like Joe DeSa and Bryan Clutterbuck (who was nicknamed "Clutterbutt" in my old flipping days) and Jaime Cocanower.

Gary Gray, Ed Ott... there were a bunch in the 80s.

But the real entertainment value in the football card was hair. That and squinty, uncomfortable, and really unfortunate portraits. You know they never took a second shot with football cards.

Beating Fman to the punch, former Royals player Pete LaCock.

His famous dad wisely adopted a stage name to lead Hollywod Squares.

I found his name humorous. Not in a double-entendre way, just the first and last name sound whimsical together.
