Re: Champions League Final

So this is, what, a Europe-wide club championship that winds itself around each nation's reg season which is why the final pairing is set three weeks in advance?

Re: Champions League Final

Yeah most leagues that matter will have finished by then. The CL used to be the European Cup , the team that won it's domestic league entered into the European Cup....it was a home and away knock out tourney.....what we have now though is basically a super league for the rich clubs....the big leagues send their top four clubs in to the round robin league of 32 teams broken into eight groups.....the " finish for fourth place" is like it's own little competition in the English Premier League .....being one of those four teams is hugely lucrative and that's a goal for teams to reach for.

Should be a good final , I hope.

Re: Champions League Final

You'd be forgiven for thinking that these three Tottenham Hotspurs players, Bentley, Crouch and Pavlyuchenko were celebrating winning an actual trophy.....nope , they are celebrating "winning" fourth place in the EPL with a 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Still , it's a great result for Spurs to finish fourth and play European club competition for the first time since the early 60's

They were calling the game last night the '£60m match', the winner was going to finish fourth and get loads of money from playing in the Champions League.

That sounds like fun - playing for championship after championship after championship. Each one being a bit more significant than the last but each having it's own meaning.

The game is on FOX now. The commentator Martin Tyler is who you will hear calling the World Cup games on TV next month.

Beats the "[reggie] Bush Bowl" where the loser got the first pick in the NFL Draft

Agree with Nymr on Tyler.....he's the voice of the Premier League , excellent presence calling the game.
