IGT, 5/18, @ Atlanta

Don't mess with my mojo, folks. We've got Johan Santana on the mound, a manager fighting for his life, and third place within reach.

well, per the New York Mets anyway, I don't know why the beat reporters still retweet the lineup.

the lineup just makes my head hurt though.

Just crediting the source. They work to get it up there first, let's show some love for the effort.

Rubin's the fourth guy in my twitter feed with the lineup. And that's not counting the email directly from the Mets with it.

I don't hate it, but I'm certainly not excited by it. Seems Pagan should be higher. Davis is slumping a bit, maybe put Pagan 5th for now.

Think the Braves will have any more weird at-bat music for the Mets tonight?

Now, that's some critical shit right there. I hope the organist wasn't a one-off thing. Maybe some Ike and Tina for young Mr. Davis, Teen Angel for Pagan, or a little Oye Como Va for Johan.

The organist played "Proud Mary", by (among others) Ike & Tina Turner, when Ike Davis came up.

Re: IGT, 5/18, @ Atlanta

Same after 6. But Santana's at 97 tosses, with copious first-pitch swinging by the Flushingers keeping Medlen's pitch count in the temperate mid-70s.

Tough changeup on Medlen.

Re: IGT, 5/18, @ Atlanta

Medlin is yanked with two on, and Moylan throws the ol' vegemite ball and induces a 5-4-3 from Francoeur as the organist plays La Vie en Rose.

7 pitch bottom of the inning for Santana, and 13 in a row retired.

Castillo beats out a grounder to Yunel Escobar by a half-step and scampers to second on a wild pitch. Chew on that, Country Time.

And please, no more fucking bunts here.

I guess Carter doesn't know how to bunt.

After giving away an out, Wright whiffs. What a surprise. No seriously, how could Manuel not have seen that coming.

Re: IGT, 5/18, @ Atlanta

bunting a runner over for Wright isn't very smart when he's in the middle of a strikeout-filled slump
Castillo scores on a single, wouldn't you rather have Matthews' 20-25% chance to score him plus Wright's 25-30% compared to Matthews' 0% (on the bunt) + maybe an extra 15% when you add non-strikeout outs in there for Wright?

Re: IGT, 5/18, @ Atlanta

Bunting is for losers? Well, yes.

What I don't get, though, is the unwillingness to pursue a strategy to its logical endpoint. If you'll bunt to get him over, why don't you safety-squeeze him in? Why sub out a superior hitter to bunt for a base, but not bunt/shorten up for a run?

They're kind enough to bunt.

We're kind enough to decline the gift out, walking Yunel Escobar.

If you told me that Mike Hessman was going to be called up and start over Wright tomorrow, I wouldn't mind. He couldn't get the run in when he was up in the top of the 9th and he gave the run away in the bottom.

Re: IGT, 5/18, @ Atlanta

A man on second with none out and we can't get him home. And giving away one of the outs makes no sense. Let Carter swing. If he hits a fly Castillo can still tag to third. If he hits it on the ground, Csstillo doesn't have to go anywhere. If he Ks, then Castillo is still in scoring position.

You knew the Braves would get the run in in the same situation.

A fuckin' Little League team would get the run in in the same situation.

Of course, they'd get the run in because the fat kid in left field is going to let a ground ball go through his legs, but that's a different matter.

Or because the kid pitching can't throw a strike, and the kid at third base who thinks too much about certain things throws a grounder away.
