KTE: Krukow's Krew

A good test for the Mets at Citi. Home cooking may get us off the skids, but it'll be a tough test this weekend.

When the Giants come to town, it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
Every time the chips are down, it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
History's in the making at Candlestick Park!
Cheer for the batter, and light the spark!

If you're a fan of Giants baseball, sing "Bye-Bye Baby!"
If you want to be in first place, call "Bye-Bye Baby!"
Listen to the broadcast on KSFO.
Turn up the volume, and hear 'em go.

With the San Francisco Giants, it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"

The San Francisco Giants roll into the Big Apple at 17-10 and in first place in the NL West. It’s been pitching, pitching, and more pitching that has propelled the G-Men to their early success, and they are fresh off a three game sweep of the Marlins. Expect more of the same this weekend. Thankfully, we miss the rejuvenated Barry Zito (5-0, 1.49) and the fire-balling Matt Cain. That’s the good news. Unfortunately, we get two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum and hte under-rated Jonathan Sanchez as bookends.

1B AL-import Aubrey Huff has held off defensive whiz Travis Ishikawa for the starter’s job. Huff leads the squad with four home runs (told ya pitching was key) but is often lifted for defensive replacements in the late innings.

2b While Freddy “Professional Hitter” Sanchez continues his Beltran-like rehab, the keystone sac has been handled by a host of thousands…or three. Expect Matt Downs to get the ABs here, given his torrid start, (Eugenio Velez was demoted and Juan Uribe is considerable too valuable off the bench).

SS Edgar Renteria continues the tradition of ancient middle infielders who have wound up in SF in recent years (see Vizquel, Omar). He’s hurting now and may miss the series. If so, expect to see Juan Uribe slotted here.

3B Pablo “Kung Fu Panda” Sandoval. A bowling ball with legs, and a blast to watch run and field. Fan favorite and among five regulars hitting over .300 (funny that those two are often related)

LF Mark DeRosa. An off-season addition whom many wanted in blue-and-orange, but rather unremarkable thus far. Versatile, but not irreplaceable.

CF Aaron Rowand. Recovered from a nasty beaning, but the owner of a hefty hefty hefty contract and a wimpy wimpy wimpy 10:1 K/BB ratio.

RF Nate Schierholz. An OPS of 1.040 but only 5 RBI. Go figure.

C Benji Molina. Another one slated for Queens last winter. Rod is better. Not really, but, you know what I mean.

Bench: John Bowker (big bat), Matt Whiteside (catcher) and the aforementioned Uribe and Ishikawa.

SP: Jonathan Sanchez. Not just dirty, he's filthy. Threw a one-hitter and lost to SD. H/K ratio of 37/17 in 29 IP.

SP:Todd Wellemeyer. (v Johan) Our best chance for a win this series. An ERA above 5.5 and nearly as many walks as Strikeouts.

SP: Timmy “The Freak” Lincecum. Two-time reigning Cy Young Winner. The weekend starts bad and ends worse for Mets hitters. 56 Ks to 8 BBs in 42 innings this season.

Pen: Lefty Jeremy Affeldt (he of the new contract) is having a rough start, but Righties Sergio Romo (16 Ks to 1 BB) and Guillermo Mota are not. Closer Brian Wilson provides heartburn for fans, but usually gets the job done. (unless it's against the Phillies.)

Manager Bruce Bochy—owner of MLB’s largest hat size at 8 ¾-- has Metly roots.

The further-reading list is a nice touch-- it makes the KTE feel a little more PBS.

Also, f*cking Mota's a Giant now?

Re: KTE: Krukow's Krew

Nice KTE, but I cringed when I saw the thread title.
That fucker was poison for the Mets. He is the ultimate jinx. No proof (obviously, how can you prove a jinx?), but its a gut feeling. The Mets had a tough time beating him (they'd knock him out, but his team always seemed to take him off the hook for the loss). Later, when the Mets would be winning a game, and Ralphie would talk about him being in the SF booth (and the camera would focus on him), the game would turn badly from that point. And, whether he was pitching or broadcasting, he always seems to have a smirk on his face.

I hope he gets a temporary case of laryngitis and doesn't show up at the ball park during this series.

C'mon guys, wipe that smirk off his face.
Let's Go Mets!

Re: KTE: Krukow's Krew

Giants scare me. They're about the last team a struggling offense ought to encounter.

Sanchez probably scares me more than Lincecum: IIRC, Timmy wasn't all that impressive last time we saw him.

This of course means Todd Wellemeyer will throw the 3-hit shutout.

The thread title was a not too subtle dig at you MFS. Every year I get a kick out of hearing your hatred for the Polish Prince!

I get that, but they are also the test an offense needs to pass to get back. Might as well bring em on now. At least they won't be starting a slump.

Does that make sense?

Its nice to know someone reads, and remembers, what I post. And the nickname I've said that Ralphie uses, too.
Tears are starting to well up in my eyes.

Just got a call from a buddy at the game. He just saw old friend Shawon Dunston at the ballpark. I think Shawon works for the Giants.
