Not even sure who's on the Marlins these days. Hanley, Uggla, pitchers Ricky Nolasco and Chris Volstad, then a cast of question marks. Rick Vanden Hurk? Jorge Cantu? Alfredo Amezaga still there? I know Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen are gone, because we just saw them, and I'm pretty sure Jeff Conine is still retired. Mark Kotsay? Andre Dawson still down there? Sheffield? I don't know.

I still think Willingham is a Marlin. If he's not in the lineup tonight I'm gonna wanna know why.

You know how Sargelet's numbers have been so bad, he's gotten the beat writers half-rooting for his release? Imagine those numbers from your everyday leftfielder.

Hitting .214/.273/.223, reigning ROY/native Floridian*/font of spunk** Chris Coghlan has one-- ONE-- extra-base hit on the season, and couldn't have a bigger sophomore slump if he had grown a hump in the offseason. (He's been better over the last 10 games or so, picking it up to the tune of .267/.353/.300. GET EXCITED, MARLINS FANS!)

*So he probably likes Jimmy Buffett, and prefers his taxi drivers reckless.
**Guess what color his skin is?

Just pick a dude and make us know him.

Good show, LWFS.

When we last saw him, rookie first baseman Gaby Sanchez was batting 8th. He's now been moved up to the 2 hole, with a respectable .345 OBP. According to Wikipedia, he is married to Miami Herald sports reporter Judy Erwin and likes to skydive in the offseason.*

*You'd think this would be pretty high on the list of activities prohibited in his contract, no?

Does Gaby Sanchez qualify for the "Guys with Girly Names" thread?

Only if he doesn't use a parachute.

Re: WikiKTE - Marlins

It looks like Dan Uggla is getting a blow this evening. Your #2 hitter, according to Gameday, is second baseman Brian Barden. Young Barden actually isn't that young; he was a 28-year-old rookie last year. This year, he's 3 for 10. He has a steamin' OPS of 1.333 for May, but that's in 3 at bats. So, doing the math and assuming that no pitcher in his right mind would walk this guy, that means he's probably doubled twice this month.

According to the Palm Beach Post, he spent his offseason working with a sports psychologist in Scottsdale, Ariz., who gave him various exercises to help clear his head of all the negative thoughts that result from his struggles with professional baseball. Fredi Gonzalez says he's a good baseball guy who can handle the bat, had a pretty good spring training offensively, and is a solid defender.

In other words, this guy is a marginal major leaguer. Look for 3 for 5, with four RBIs tonight.
