Timo Perez, but worse - for the Bucs at least:

Even with the brain fart he drove in two runs and extended the Pirates' lead. Not nearly Timoesque.

Re: Blastings Thrilledge

The problem with Blastings there is that the Pirate stadium set off the fireworks which tricked him into thinking it was a HR.
He was hustling until the pyrotechnics went off.

I had posted the video on the oot thread and I can't blame Milledge. Geez, the fireworks even went off.

Agreed. It seems that everyone other than Soriano in left field for the Cubs was fooled by that one. The stadium crew shot off fireworks celebrating a Pirate home run and the play-by-play announcer with his call "Milledge hammers one to left. This ball is back, it isssss gooonne off the top of the wall." obviously thought it was out until it was too late. Classic gaffe from the booth as well as the scoreboard crew.

Embarrassing all the way around, but it hard to fault Milledge too much since he had "cadillacked" it almost halfway to third by the time the ball was thrown into the infield. Unfortunately, the video doesn't show what instruction, if any, the third base coach was relaying to the runners on that play.

I guess the lesson to be learned by all is that you run it out hard until you actually see it go out. If you're not sure then assume it's in play and run accordingly, then let the umpire tell you whether it's a home run or not.

Like the Pirates' fireworks guy has any idea what a Pirate home run looks like.

Re: Blastings Thrilledge

The further lesson to be learned is to shit-can the fireworks - unless it's like a game-ending thing.

I suspect the problem is that the smoke from those things sometimes hangs over the OF for a while (it did in Cincy the other day for example) and so the stadium flunkies are probably under instructions to shoot them off at the first possible second so that by the time the trot and high-fives are over the air has cleared in time for the next batter.

The Pirates, in effect, fucked up their own player all because they don't think a HR by itself is enough to celebrate.

Re: Blastings Thrilledge

Soriano making zero attempt to move towards the ball didn't help Milledge

Oh, and that's not in any way worse than Timo Perez.

Nothing is worse than Timo Perez.

You and I can watch World Serieses for the next 30 years and I promise we'll never see anything any worse than Timo Perez.
