Has Reyes been mishandled from day one by the Mets?

Don't rush into answering, think about it for awhile.

He probably came to the majors before he was ready, he was one of the worst every day players in the league for 2 years.

You mean day one, 2010? Or are you talking forever?

This season, maybe.

The slow to return from injury thing, both in 03-04 and 09 was really frustrating but once recovered he's had no problem staying healthy for extended periods of time (158.25 games/season was his average from 2005-2008).

Hitting in the 3 spot in the order -- right now -- clearly isn't working and I'm sure he was rushed back to the team before he was really ready this year.

Prior to this year, probably not.

This year I think so. I was really in favor of him starting day 1, not ready, because I figured 50% of Reyes as he rounded into game shape was better than Cora.

I think that was very wrong, and that the Mets still rushed him back. (and I think the kid gloves and the 5 inning games were just as bad) I think he developed bad habits trying to catch up.

I'm pretty sure he was a PED user.

Seconded.

You could make a case going all the way back -- injuries, the 2B/Matsui thing -- that yes, this whole thing has been a giant clusterfuck. But then you look at some of the things he's done when he's been right, and they would not have been even close to the same team without him.

(Of course, that makes other dominoes fall, perhaps as large as Alex Rodriguez.)

I'm really starting to come around with this line of thinking.

When I hear Manuel talk about how this with Reyes is a timing thing, or he's trying to do to much(really he is?) I wish he were sent for extended Spring Training in the minors and not have it up here.

I recall that some of us are ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CERTAIN that he's not.

I hate that thread.

Yeah, I think he came up too early. Yeah, I think he shouldn't have been mvoed to second. But what matters is where they are now. The madness to get him back into the linup this year after almost a year off was the work of a bunch of Panicky Penelopes, but they're not going be able to farm him out for rehab now. So really, you work with him, you sit him a bit, and you don't bat him in a place where the the RBI situations are set up to fall.

Wright's not right either. It's painful work.

I find it difficult to assess Reyes now. I am seeing a "rusty" Jose Reyes for now and it skews my thinking.
Beyond that, the Mets are not responsible for the injuries along the way. I had posted 20% chance of Jose being a PED user.

I don't think he was brought up too early.
