His biggest edge is his teflon press coating. He's untouchable.
It's Michael Jordanesque.

He does, but they're mostly blunt. Soft-focus, and all.

Hell, he's got so much edge, sometimes he needs to take them off.

Maybe I'm just cranky, but the lottery commercial where they guy

high thing gets on my nerves too. Need to hit mute quicker.

Re: Jeter

This pile of pooh from Heyman....

• The Yankees say they will "definitely'' lock up Derek Jeter after this year. And that's easy to believe since in many ways he is the player of the past decade and a half. This doesn't diminish him one bit, but he has some interesting stats so far this year, including a .968 OPS at Yankee Stadium and a .512 OPS on the road (that's really odd since the ball isn't flying at Yankee Stadium like it did last year).

By what measure? Albert Pojols and his MVP awards disagree.

And Jeter is not going anywhere. He's worth far less to any other team.

I suspect Jeter will force the Yankees to lock him in to a too-long, too-much contract. 5/100? No way he doesn't demand his contract last at least as long as A-Rods.

It'll be sweet to see them lock in their "heroes" to contracts past their time.... though them cutting Damon and Matsui loose this past off-season doesn't bode well for my wish.

Re: Jeter

Well, Jeter's shown his greed before with his contract. It'll probably be some game of chicken with his Ego versus his desire to only play for the Yankees.

Re: Jeter

Jeter's contract - the one just now running out - was more a matter of Steinbrenner short-sightedness than Jeter greed.
They could have signed him far cheaper but George took things year by year with him until a year prior to his FA season*, plus he also had this thing about wanting it to appear that he wasn't "setting the standard" for contracts. So what they did was wait until ARod signed his first and when Texas blew everyone out of the water with their 10/252 deal the Yanx were forced to up their's so Jeter's contract would at least approach the other one.

* He did the same thing with Mattingly years earlier then finally signed him to a long-term deal just as his started downhill. George then got pissed that he was over-paying and turned on Mattingly late in his career.

Re: Jeter

Either way, I think Ceetar's call about the game of chicken is more likely to happen than a graceful meet-halfway scenario. Cashman is no sentimentalist, and he is unlikely to want to spend any more than he has to on an immobile singles hitter who is clogging up a key defensive position.

Re: Jeter

Or he could trade him to the Pirates, and we can see how the "player of the last decade and a half' looks when his intangibles are not surrounded by All-Stars.

He'd retire by May, especially if Lastings hangs a "Know your place, vet" sign in his locker when Jeter starts making demands.

Hate is such a strong word. The following a a few of the reasons why I personally am tired of hearing about the guy:
1 - He's a MFY
2 - He's an overrated (at least defensively) MFY
3- He strikes me as an arrogant, self righteous, overrated MFY

Jeter has had (and continues to have) a very good career. However, to listen to much of the sports media you would think he is Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, nad Hank Aaron all rolled into one with of course those invaluable intqngibles thrown in just for good measure. He's been good but he's not that damn good. Hell, he's not even the best shortstop on his own team.

Its probably similar to the way Rangers' fans felt about Potvin.

Funny, I guessed 5/100 6 months ago and Jeter's demanding more than that. Could see them settling, if they do, on that. *pats himself on back*

Slow news day at the Wall Street Journal. This blip on Jeter and San Fran is pretty bland.
