NBA Playoffs

Anyone watching?

Couldn't help but be shocked how bad LeBron looked last night. I also don't think the Cavs coach knows he is allowed to call timeout.

Re: NBA Playoffs

A pathetic story in the Snooze today(seriously , how fucking lame has that paper gotten?) about how #1 Knicks fan Spike Lee is rooting for Boston.

anyway , to answer your question, I have not watched one second of the playoffs.

Re: NBA Playoffs

These days, I really only care about the NBA (and NHL) as long as the Celtics (and Flyers) are involved in the playoff picture. So I'm vaguely following both, but mostly through tweets, clicks to the ESPN mobile site, and friends' Facebook statuses.

No. I might catch a few minutes here or there coming up but a hoops game rarely holds my attention for very long and the playoff season is endless in this league with horrible scheduling. Rule #1 says that when the NHL is running something better than you (a virtually identical and concurrent playoff system) it's time to re-evaluate a few things.
Plus, it's a good thing for the NBA that this one series is interesting because the rest of the quarterfinals were not only sweeps but, for the most part, walk-over sweeps.

You and commissioner Stern both.
In the ultimate star-centric league that is the NBA, the thought of going LeBron-less for both the semi-finals and finals is probably keeping the poor lad up at night - even if it's the Celtics that knock him out. If the finals wind up both LeBron-less and Kobe-less he might just decide to end it all.

Re: NBA Playoffs

Given ESPN's star-sucking tendencies it would have been interesting to time just how much of this morning's one-hour SportsCenter was dedicated to last night's hoops game and all LeBron-related stuff. I heard someone on the radio say that the first 23 minutes were on that one topic (and barely mentioning the Celtics all the while) and seeing as how I'm sure they went back to it a number of times later on I'm guessing well over half the show.

The NBA FA deadline in July 1 so this LeBron speculation game should keep the nerds over at 'the world-wide leader' busy right up until it's time to send an army of reporters to go camp out on Brett Farve's lawn again.

P.S. Saw only the last 3-4 minutes of this game last night and, yeah, they probably weren't catching up anyway, but the Cavs showed no sign of even being interested in trying. No fouls, no urgency, walking the ball up the court, etc.
Very strange.

Re: NBA Playoffs

I watched the game, and then Sportscenter directly afterwards. They are right, the first 20 minutes, if not the first 1/2 hour, was spent exclusively on that game. It was, essentially, a post-game show. They focused on LeBron's failures (27-19-10 is a heck of a "failure") and speculated where he might end up next year. The Celtics were very much an afterthought, as most agreed they are not likely to get by Orlando anyway.

The Cavs absolutely quit, which was funny because the only thing their coach was talking about afterwards was how hard they fought and how they never gave up. It basically solidifies my impression that he has no idea what is going on.

I know looks aren't necessarily indicative of ability, but I have never seen a coach look more lost than Mike Brown. He sits there while Boston goes on a run seemingly unaware that he has the right to call a time out. His lineups are dumb, he has no set plays, he doesn't even have one of those dry-erase clipboard courts.

He has this expression on his face like he's sure the Celtics have more players on the court than they're supposed to but is confused why he only counts five.

Re: NBA Playoffs

One of the selling points the Cavs have for James staying with them is the firing of Brown. I'll tune in for a Celtics /Lakers finals if it comes to that.

Close...

But no cee-gar.

He does appear utterly incapable of in-game strategic adjustment, though. On the rare occasions that these Cavs teams have been able to come back on good teams, it's been pretty exclusively because of Lebron's heroics, or individual defensive plays. It has NEVER been because of changes in style of play/exploiting matchups problems (unless said matchup problem is between Guy-Who-Guards-Lebron and Lebron).

The lottery draft will be held tonight.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... aftlottery

Amid rumors that the new Nets owner is tied in with the Russian Maffia, the new Nets owner has said that once the Nets get the #1 pick, David Stern's family will be released, unharmed.

Internet rumors are that LeBron crapped out because he found out Delonte West was banging his mom. No joke.

I saw a picture of LeBron's mom this morning.
I'm sure Delonte West crapped out when he heard the news, too.

I'm really sad about the Nets only getting the 3rd pick. Still getting my thoughts together.

Re: NBA Playoffs

I'm not going to cry too much for the Nets. The whole lottery system was put into place so that teams wouldn't tank it down the stretch just to get the #1 pick. Not that the Nets did that this past season (they didn't need to) but, even given their status as more likely than any other team to get the top prize, that's not the same as being likely to get it and when the odds are 3-to-1 against something happening it's tough to claim that you were jobbed and that not doing so fouled up your plans.
Pitino cried about this when he built all his plans around his Celtics getting Tim Duncan in the draft and when the dice didn't roll his way he went running back to college where things like having to play by such orderly rules don't exist.

Meanwhile, I missed how the Knicks did in their lottery pick. What ... they didn't have one? How does that happen?

What a cool photo: Shannon Brown misses what would have been an incredible dunk against the Suns.

Best part: The face Kobe is making.

Re: NBA Playoffs

Nice showing by Orlando huh?
They went through the first two rounds like they were playing chumps (which they pretty much were) but just haven't shown up against Boston. Just flicked on game 3 and they're down by several touchdowns.
