Re: Mets On Pace for Second Place: IGT 5/27/10 PHIL@NYM

In honor of the Mets playing Philadelphia and then flying to Milwaukee, let's find out who was a Met, a Phillie and a Brewer...

Eleven players, none of whom you could truly call "all-time" for any of the franchises in question:

Gary Bennett, Dan Boitano, Ricky Bottalico, Jose Cardenal, Kane Davis, Tom Edens, Julio Franco, Dick Selma and Kelly Stinnett...

PLUS Wayne Twitchell who wandered over from the Met-Phillie-Expo group (brings regards from Bruce Chen)...

AND our featured active performer, Nelson "Nobody Appreciates Me" Figueroa.

Let's win tonight and make it a happy journey to the Midwest.

Concourse reopened at Citi Field, according to @MetsWFAN and @Ledger_NYMets.

Mets say the concourse was closed because police were checking on a camera bag that was left unattended. It's no longer a concern.

I hear ya but I really think, the way the ballpark is currently, you have to play small ball for the most part.

If they don't lower that left field fence I'm thinking what they should do is create strategic holes
in the stands and as a result create air currents that will aid the flight of a baseball.

That sounds funny but I'm being serious.

And still lower that damn left field wall.
I just hate that.

Rollins re-injured his injury last week.

Who took a KTE shit on this, anyway?

The KTE thread should be stickied until October in my humble opinion.

I would have.
I was MIA for a long spell there tho.
I got to the point last year where I thought maybe
I was jinxing the team by rooting for them.

What a turn by Castillo.
Utley was trying to take him out
Excellent play.[/quote:342eot5v]

Luis gets knocked for his declining range, but turning DPs is something he does VERY well IMO. Hangs in there and gets off great throws no matter how hard or how big the runner is or how fast he's coming.
And just as an aside, was watching a bit of the Yanqui game a day or two ago the Yanx essentially won the game because Orlando Hudson made a HORRID turn which extended an inning and was then followed by an RBI double. He essentially took at least two extra steps in order to get out of the way of a sliding runner who wasn't even all that close to him before then taking another stride in order to throw.

Gotta say, I like the "Uprising" at the end of these a lot better than I like the hackneyed BTO, at least for now. Edge of danger and angst to it, like we's exorcising some demons.

The Mets climb to third place in the tight as a sardine can NL East. Braves lead Fla. by five in the ninth.

The Mets are suddenly two games behind the Phillies and two games out of the Wild Card spot.

Quotes:

"It's the most impressive sweep I've ever been a part of," Francoeur said. "To hold that kind of team to no runs over three games is unbelievable.

Of course, much of this streak coincides with the crafty Dickey and Takahashi - who have allowed a total of two runs over 24 combined innings during two starts apiece - replacing bullpen-banished Oliver Perez and inconsistent-and-injured John Maine in the quintet.

.... Pelfrey certainly achieved that in improving to 7-0 with a 1.81 ERA and one save in 10 appearances aside from the ... six-run shelling over four innings against the Phillies on May 1 for his lone loss of the year.

Was able to snag a ball last night. Sitting several rows behind Mets dugout, after Werth grounded out to end the 4th, Ike flipped the ball into the stands as he headed in. It bounced off a few people's hands and landed at my feet.

Picked it up and was looking at it when the guy behind me tapped on the shoulder and said 'Hey, why don't you give that to the kid?' and then pointed to his smiling, cherubic 7ish year-old. I looked at the kid - who was wearing a Phillies cap and I said 'Phillies fan? I don't think so'. Then I put it in my bag.

It's on my kid's dresser this morning.

I appreciate the dual nominations, thank you.

One more: There was an Utley or Howard deep fly ball to center at some later point in the game when it was still 1-0 and the Phillie Phamily behind us all stood up and screamed like it was gone. It settled nicely into Pagan's glove short of the warning track and my son turned around to them and said 'This is a major-league stadium'

Hey, how far fair was Reyes' double? They didn't show a definitive angle at the game. From where I was it looked like it almost hit the line but from the reactions in the thread I'm thinking it was fair by a lot more than that.

No help here:

http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/video/play. ... 5&c_id=nym

You'd think they would have considered camera locations when designing the place. We have to look at the fans in the vicinity to know if it's fair.

If I remember correctly, which as you all know is a very iffy thing,
it was about two feet fair and then traveled into foul territory, almost directly into the corner.

This is from my local newspaper.
The head line was:
PHILS LEAVE NEW YORK WITH NOTHING

Won't bore you with it all but I got a laugh from this:

Jose Reyes, fresh from giving batting tips to the newly crowned Miss USA, was pretty at the plate....

Wonder if Reyes was playing to impress last night.
