I think I hated Willie more than Ceetar hates Jerry. When the Mets were romping in 2006, sometimes, all I could think of was that now I'd be stuck with Willie for at least another year and a half.

In honor the Mets at Milwaukee and TMF at Minnesota, who are the players who are/were Mets, Brewers and Twins? There have been eight. Two are still active: Carlos Gomez, failed prospect in two places; Henry Blanco, the man of a thousand tattoos. One is the last Met who celebrated excessively on the field without eliciting complaints of hot dogging: Jesse Orosco. One is busy acting as realtor for the Field of Dreams house: Ken Sanders. One is a pitcher whose name came up in last night's broadcast as regarded 1987 and injuries to pitchers and those who were run out there to take their place: Tom Edens. Two were traded for one another: Alex Ochoa for Rich Becker. And one was Darrin Jackson.

Tough to consider his half-season with the Mets as failing as a prospect, given that he was used in trade for a pretty good player. Reyes and Bay put some good swings on Gallardo there. A shot to the track by Reyes that Hart caught, and a bullet that Gallardo snagged for a DP. Promising start despite the result.

So you're just going to ignore the win share data? Win Shares is a cumulative stat, its easy to rack up a high number when you get sent out there every day and (likely, i havent checked) bat leadoff alot. 25th among AL outfielders? there are 42 starting outfield spots in the AL, but how many of those didnt see a guy play full time in 2008? i went to baseball reference (where they list the guy who played the most at each position for each team in a given year) and pulled anyone who didn't play 140 games. thats a pretty relaxed standard for "every day" i think, but it takes out a full 21 of them. so only 21 guys played 140+ games in the outfield in the AL in 2008, and yet he managed to rank 25 among outfielders in the AL in WS, despite ranking 10th in ABs among that same group in '08.

Once the decision was made to bring in Pedro, I don't necessarily mind that he was limited to pitching to Fielder. But then why wasn't he allowed to pitch to Howard and Utley last night?

Santana had thrown 105 pitches but he mowed them down the last several innings. There was no frigging reason to take him out other than a) pitch count or b) he said he was tired (which he wouldn't). Of course, don't forget bases loaded, nobody out, and no runs.

I had posted before that Santana hadn't been bested by another team's ace yet this year. I guess you could say he was here, although I don't know if that's fair, given how he was lifted prematurely by his manager.
