OOTS

We know Halladay threw a perfecto, but also:

Angels slugger Kendry Morales hits a walk-off Grand Slam and is then carted off with a broken leg suffered in the ensuing celebration. Only a matter of time before something like that happened. My guess is teams start curtailing that type of activity, and none too soon (a walk off granny is one thing, but when they do it for a bases loaded walk??)

Re: OOTS

Holy shit!!

Also in the Yanx game ARod banked a liner off the Cleveland pitcher's coconut. Was conscious but hauled him off on the stretcher anyway.
That was in like the 3rd inning. Injuns later had a 7 run 7th to erase several early Yanqui leads.

Re: OOTS

Also, Giants phenom Buster Posey went 3-4 with three rbi in his debut.

GM Brain Sabean must be punching himself for resigining Benji Molina when he has Buster and a very good backup (Matt Whiteside) at his disposal.

Three HR this Sunday for Albert Pujols. He may not be slumping.

Re: OOTS

Marlins turn the tables and shutout the Phils 1-0 today (on a 4 hitter).
That's 5 shutouts of the Phils and a total of 7 runs scored in the last 8 games.
The only thing that suxx is that they somehow managed to win 2 of them.

Braves in first place , beat Phillies 9-3 today....I guess it surprises me that they are in first , they looked so awful when playing the Mets.

Almost like a team that can have a 9-1 homestand, then less than a week later get swept in a 4-gamer at Miami?

Yeah true, this division is there for the taking.

Re: OOTS

elsewhere, Colorado's Ubaldo Jiminez finishes May with a flourish: a complete game gem against the Giants that leaves him at 10-1 with a miniscule ERA of 0.78

I hope Selig isn't going to lower the mound.

What is truly amazing to me is that Jiminez pitches for the Rockies. Granted, Coors Field isn't the hitters heaven it once was in earlier years, but it is still a good hitters park. How tough he could be in a park that really suppresses offense like Citi Field or Petco Field.

Really, if you discount/negate the effects of the altitude on ball flight (as the humidor-ing purports to do), it's the same field as the other two-- namely, big-ass outfield with more Gap than your average suburban mall-- minus asymmetry and plus much more misbegotten purple.

I agree that it's a big park and baseballs don't fly out of there like they once did, but Coors field still ranks very high in park factor (fwiw) as stimulating offense. Coors Field was ranked 1st for 2009 season and is currently 3rd for 2010 season. By contrast, Citi field was 22nd last year and is 30th this year while Petco was 30th last year and 25th thus far in 2010.*

Re: OOTS

That Nats loss to the Astros that they just showed on SNY came right after a Berkman half-swing that could have and should have ended the game but the 3B ump didn't give Capps & the Nats the call. Next pitched he singled in two for the tying and winning runs.
Prior to that Houston somehow managed to NOT score a runner from 2nd on a double off the wall.

Now Cincy is trying to close out StL in the 9th after another back and forth game. 9-8 Reds w/2 outs in the 9th and bases empty.
oe: Reds win, Reds win.

And in other 1st place news, Braves beat the Phils again as Howard, representing the tying run, grounded out w/the bases loaded.

Atlanta 2 - Philly 1

That's a sweep for 'Lanta and 8 straight overall.
Were 6.5 back on May 17, now 1.5 up

If this were September that would be considered a Philly choke.

At least Joyce's call didn't determine the outcome of the game. This bad call from Wednesday night, by Dale Scott, did:

Phils have scored 3 in the 8th to take a 10-8 lead vs the Fish.
I took a night off from whammyin their offense.
