Way to use the same short for Francisco, tabloids. Is that actually from last night or is it a file photo?

Its not the same shot, look at Frankie's right arm.

Incidentally, earlier editions of Snooze and Pest each had variations on BAY CITI on the back page, with one helpfully adding ROLLERS. Nobody remains more immersed, 30+ years after the fact, in '70s Top 40 than yours truly, and even I had to stop and think about that for a few seconds.

Edgy DC May 25 2010 07:39 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
The funny thing is Kingman never actually washed up. While he was certainly bad during his second Mets tenure, it's hard to attribute that to aging, as he had a strong finish to his career as the Oakland DH.

Wright is on pace to finish with 121 RBI. If that's washed up I'll take a team full of them please.

I'm amazed that the Mets trumped the Yankees winning two games given the Yankeephilia of the NY sports media.
|
MFS62 May 27 2010 08:23 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
Uh, not for nuthin', but I remember when the World War II war movies used "Zips" as a derogatory term for Japanese (So was "Nips"). I realize he meant two games in which he gave up no runs, but somebody should eat a lot of sushi for that headline.
|
soupcan May 27 2010 08:34 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
Short for 'Zipperhead' right?

Actually, I believe it was because the principal Japanese fighter plane the Allies faced was code named the "Zero". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A6M_Zero and Zip is another way to say zero. Later, it became a word used for all Japanese. Later

It led the late local sports news, too. Win or lose, it does seem like the Mets are the more compelling baseball drama right now.
|
Edgy DC May 27 2010 10:00 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
Well, the Mets won the crosstown series and are now playing, beating, and shutting out the first-place two-time-pennant-defending division rivals. The Yanks lost the crosstown series and are playing the Twins --- interesting to New York Sports editors only when (a) local teams are taking their best players away from them, and (b) when David Wells is pitching a perfect game against them.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 27 2010 10:16 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
The Mets are also doing their Dew at home.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 27 2010 11:13 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
The MFYs will find themselves on the back page again if Minnesota could ever beat them and continue their struggles (the MFYs scored 4 runs over 2 away games and won both, WTF Twins) and/or when more Pettitte/A-Rod doping juice is revealed and you know it will be.
|
Ceetar May 27 2010 11:40 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
|
What about the Jeter/Rivera doping juice? Speaking of doping juice, (and I'm not dignifying it with a post/link) Murray Chase is hurt that the media didn't lambast Piazza when he was in Citi Field this past weekend about his "so evident if it was a murder charge he'd be convicted" steroid use.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 27 2010 11:47 AM Re: Tomorrow's News Today |
Well, I don't go for the goosechase myself but if Piazza wasn't juiced then juice didn't exist.
