Way to use the same short for Francisco, tabloids. Is that actually from last night or is it a file photo?

Is it possible two different photogoraphers got the same shot?

Yeah I at first suspected they were the same shot but my Snooze hard copy has a credit for Cory Sipken/Daily News

Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed this became a "Mets Hold On" story and not a "Bay Kicked Sabathia's Fat Ass" story, but that's baseball, Suzyn.

Incidentally, earlier editions of Snooze and Pest each had variations on BAY CITI on the back page, with one helpfully adding ROLLERS. Nobody remains more immersed, 30+ years after the fact, in '70s Top 40 than yours truly, and even I had to stop and think about that for a few seconds.

Re: Tomorrow's News Today

The funny thing is Kingman never actually washed up. While he was certainly bad during his second Mets tenure, it's hard to attribute that to aging, as he had a strong finish to his career as the Oakland DH.

Actually, I believe it was because the principal Japanese fighter plane the Allies faced was code named the "Zero".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A6M_Zero
and Zip is another way to say zero. Later, it became a word used for all Japanese.

It led the late local sports news, too.

Win or lose, it does seem like the Mets are the more compelling baseball drama right now.

Re: Tomorrow's News Today

Well, the Mets won the crosstown series and are now playing, beating, and shutting out the first-place two-time-pennant-defending division rivals. The Yanks lost the crosstown series and are playing the Twins --- interesting to New York Sports editors only when (a) local teams are taking their best players away from them, and (b) when David Wells is pitching a perfect game against them.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

Re: Tomorrow's News Today

The Mets are also doing their Dew at home.

But I'd argue that while the Yanks (as always) are winning the fluff-piece/dollarstore-hagiography war, the Mets have been drawing more tabloidy/back-page attention in general. The onfield ups and downs have been pretty extreme this year, making for damn good hacky copy; the off-field leitmotif of Minaya/Manuel's Last Stand (along with the Citifield-is-empty story some amateur sociologists favor) trumps anything drama-wise that the Yankees have to offer, unless Cashman suddenly and publicly decides he's Kim Ng in a white man's body.

The MFYs will find themselves on the back page again if Minnesota could ever beat them and continue their struggles (the MFYs scored 4 runs over 2 away games and won both, WTF Twins) and/or when more Pettitte/A-Rod doping juice is revealed and you know it will be.

What about the Jeter/Rivera doping juice?

Speaking of doping juice, (and I'm not dignifying it with a post/link) Murray Chase is hurt that the media didn't lambast Piazza when he was in Citi Field this past weekend about his "so evident if it was a murder charge he'd be convicted" steroid use.
