Triple Trivia Fun

Jose Reyes, in tripling last eve, moved into sixth place among active triplers. Interestingly, the active lead is now shared by three players.
Hint: there are only two full-time righthanded batters on the list. The rest are lefties or switchies.

Put me down for Rollins, Ichiro, Castillo and ugh! Jeter and Damon.

Just pretend I didn't say nuthin' after Rollins. May I offer you a cigar as a token of reconciliation? Have a cigar. You're gonna go far.

One at a time. If you're going to be a hog about this, then gimme back my cigar. I say Furcal.
|
Gwreck May 26 2010 09:41 AM Re: Triple Trivia Fun |

Yeah, how about that. Nothing like having 8 of the correct answers posted by the same person like 3 minutes after the initial post. I'll throw in Michael Young as a guess.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 26 2010 09:43 AM Re: Triple Trivia Fun |
Sorry. The quizmaster asked for 10, though.

batmagadanleadoff May 26 2010 09:44 AM Re: Triple Trivia Fun |

So how do you know that eight responses are correct?

More of an assumption, really. It's not really my intention to be a whiny SOB here.

Congratulations to JCL for realizing there is an American league outside of the Yanks and Sawx, but Soriano was a terrible terrible guess, tied for 70th place with 25 trips. One strike on him. One on Fman for Hanley Ramirez --- 81st place with 22. One also to MFS62. Griffey is 30th with 38. Three strikes and yer out to LWFS. Figgins is 16th with 54. Renteria is 64th with 27. Durham is right out. We may want to discuss protocol and ettiquette for such trivquizzes, to avoid the bitter bitterness of the late. Anyhow, great work. Two dudes remain.

Ha! Sweet vindication, as there were actually 11 answers right. Also it appears my guess was wrong but we can ignore that for these purposes.

You said two bat right-handed. So one of the two remaining answers must be righty. I'm stumped for now.

Yeah, Jetes was one. The other two are no strangers to the NL East.

Roberts is a bold, brave, and heartbreaking guess. It alas is wrong. Brian is tied for 45th at 33. That's two strikes, son, so choke up.

I walk a bunch, too, so it evens out. Peeked. (Not so smart now, are we, Trebek!) Remember Edge's clue. I think number 10 may actually be trickier (the possible oddity of which may strike you when you see who it is).

I think the simplest solution is for the quiz master to specify protocol s/he wants when posting the question.
|

Carlos Beltran fails to crack the top 100. Strike two on Ochoseis.

I'm out of gas on this one. I figured that Cameron's been around long enough. I wouldn't have thought of him were it not for the Beltran reference.

Yeah, that wasn't a criticism of your guess, I posted it without even realizing you'd guessed him too. Looks that way now, though.

|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 26 2010 11:10 AM Re: Triple Trivia Fun |
Weird. Maybe it's because I've had him twice or thrice as fantasy-baseball back-of-roster fodder, but I would have guessed him before Kablammeron.

I get three cracks at this? OK, NL-East familiarity is my clue:
|
Chad Ochoseis May 26 2010 12:54 PM Re: Triple Trivia Fun |
Back of rotisserie roster fodder with speed and NL East experience who's been around long enough to have compiled? I'm going to take a Francoeur-like swing at my last strike and guess Endy.

Christian Guzman with 88, 20 of them in one year.

I'm guessing that his failure to appear in 2010 makes bb-r.com think he's inactive. Oopsy-daisy.
|
Frayed Knot May 26 2010 01:45 PM Re: Triple Trivia Fun |
Yeah, the KC stadium (pre-modeled version anyway) was a great place for triples (and ItPHRs). It had artificial turf and rounded corners which caused visiting OFers to mis-play balls there all the time.

OK, sorry. Including the guessed guys who are active, but not active-active, we have...
Other Metly guys in the hot 100 Mike Cameron (now 12th with 59) Alex Cora (38th with 36) Miguel Cairo (55th with 30) Gary Matthews, Jr. and Jay Payton (60th with 29) Jason Bay (66th with 27) Alex Cintron (91st with 21) Kazuo Matsui (99th with 20)

He's been one of those hidden pains-in-the-Nats since coming to the NL; his career BA/OBP get bumped up from .273 to .311 when he's playing Metly opposition, and it gains nutritional value, too, so to speak-- he's slugging .458 lifetime against the Mets, .384 against everyone else. We'd probably notice him a bit more if Willie F. Harris weren't so Willie F. Harris.
