We probably will hit Mall of America, because we have an early flight with time to kill before we can check into our downtown hotel.

What about things to do downtown? Keep in mind we'll have MK in tow, so bars are out.

Or, if he's busy, St. Peter.

The Cedar Cultural Center ([url]http://www.thecedar.org) is a great venue for music. And don't forget Minnehaha Falls.

A friend who lived there for seven years says:

Rent Pontoon on Lake Minnetonka.....
Guthrie theatre has a new complex
Walker art museum...has famous outdoor garden.
North east is an up and coming area, artists, bars, restaurants
Stillwater is a cute town on the river
Mystic Lake casino is about 45 minutes away
Wayzata is also a cute town on Lake Minnetonka
Hennepin County Park system has some really nice parks
Tubing is popular in the midwest, might have to go to wisconsin to do it....
Lucia's is my favorite restaurant
Mall of America is worth a visit, take a rollercoaster ride, California Café
is pretty good.
Rent a canoe and do the chain of lakes....Calhoun, Isles...Lake of the isles
is surrounded by mansions and is really fun to canoe on.
I think there is a little dinner cruise boat on Minnetonka as well.

You simply must purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

Re: What Does One Do For Fun in Minneapolis

I was there for a weeks training about 7/8 years ago. The Mall of America might have been the worst place I was ever at.One of the people doing the training took me around St. Paul's historic area, very nice and all that, I saw the Governors mansion IIRC.

That's, um, actually what we are doing the weekend that we are headed there to see a game.

Re: What Does One Do For Fun in Minneapolis

That sounds good.

We actually did enjoy Mall of America when we were there in 2002. We'll probably go back, because we will arrive early on Friday, will have time to kill before we can check into our hotel, and MOA is near the airport.

Friday night we'll be at the game, and we'll be at the game Saturday afternoon. Heading back home on Sunday.

So it's not like we will have a ton of time on our hands. If there's anything really good to see/do in the downtown area, that would be perfect.

Chad - Lucia's seems to be a bit further away than what we're looking for. Does your friend know of any good, MK-friendly place between Target Field and the Metrodome?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions (both the informational ones and the facetious ones ).

Re: What Does One Do For Fun in Minneapolis

Now that I've had a night's sleep, these are my reflections on Target Field.

There's a lot they got right about the place. It's pretty, the streets and causeways around the place are kept immaculate, and there is a lot of homage to the Twins' history - much more than what the Mets have done at Citi Field.

What I didn't like about the place aren't necessarily big things, but they're sufficient to lower the place in my internal ranking system. There is a lot of food, but no real standouts, and there is a dearth of healthy options - only Frankie V's has salad, and that was sold out by the second inning (I had to go upstairs to get one - $8 for some greens with a little cheese and dressing). The causeways are narrow, and the seating areas are very crowded - we had seats in a good area of the park, and still had no room to maneuver when we wanted to leave our seats for any reason. Plus, as fans who were interested in the out of town scoreboard, the scoreboard was on drugs - the innings kept going back and forth in time, including games that were over suddenly showing that they were back in progress! Whatever feed the electronic scoreboard was working off of was glitching, which seems like a silly and sloppy kind of error in the 21st Century.

All that aside, we liked the ballpark and had a very nice time there. But it wasn't the perfect ballpark experience.

We'll see what it's like today for a day game in the cheap seats.

I htink it's written into Minnesota state law that healthy foods cannot be served after sunset.
