Random Interesting Factoid Of The Day

The last two rookie managers to finish with a winning record after inheriting teams that finished at least 20 games below .500 the previous year were Mike Scioscia (2000) and Davey Johnson (1984).

Both teams won the World Series two years later.

Maybe this really is 1984.

Is Steve Trachsel the new Walt Terrell?
Who will be Gary Carter this winter?

Hmm...

Steve Trachsel is too old and has been around too long to be Walt Terrell.

Yance, don't stop him with facts.
He's on a roll.

Some slight differences, but:

Craig Swan = Al Leiter?
Darryl Strawberry = David Wright?
George Foster = Cliff Floyd?
Mookie Wilson = Jose Reyes?

I don't know, parallels can be drawn, but this situation is unique.

None of these parallels make a drop of sense.

2005 can be like 1984 without mapping players from then to players from now.

If the Mets get one more big player over the offseason, and the young guys mature a bit more, and the Mets become real contenders, then maybe 2005 is like 1984. You don't have to find a modern-day counterpart to Danny Heep to make a connection between the seasons.
