Valerie is a 4-year old girl who was found wandering in Queens. I saw her on the local news when I was on a cruise to Cozumel (the network affiliates were all out of NYC). The last I knew (Sunday night) her father was being charged with killing her mother and they were looking for the body.

Can someone keep me apprised of her situation? My internet has been down since my return so this is my first chance to ask.

Here's a little article I found on her, Annie. Sounds like she's safe, at least, poor little one

No real news yet; here's the latest:

]NEW YORK -- Little pig-tailed Valery Lozada sang and counted in English and Spanish for her great-uncle, cheerfully unaware that police are searching in two states for her mother's body.

Enrique Salas and his daughter, Youvanska, visited with Valery on Saturday for the first time since the 4-year-old was found barefoot in the middle of the night on a Queens street.

The Salases are the only relatives Valery has seen since the Sept. 24 disappearance of her 26-year-old mother. The mother's companion, Cesar Ascarrunz, 26, is being held without bail on a murder charge.

Police said Ascarrunz choked Monica Lozada-Rivadineira, put her body in a plastic bag and left it in their apartment for two days.

On Sept. 26, he allegedly dumped the body in a pile of trash on a Queens street corner.

Police are now searching for the body in two Pennsylvania landfills that take New York City trash. But Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly doubted that sanitation workers would have collected the trash without discovering the body.

"She hasn't been asking about her mother as much as she did in the beginning," said Salas.

Salas said Valery and her parents left Bolivia three years ago and lived for a year in Santa Ana, Calif. After the marriage broke up, the mother and child lived with Salas in Corona, Queens, for about eight months.

"There was no lack of anything for this girl," said Salas.

He said Monica taught her good manners and how to be a little lady. Salas said he viewed Ascarrunz, who was a frequent guest of the family, "as a friend we could trust."

I had heard that her father was seeking custody, although this story doesn't mention it; he's not the suspect, it's her mother's boyfriend who is being held.

Okay, when they asked her what her monther's name was, she said "Monica" and when they asked her what her father's name was, she said "Cesar". So when they had this guy arrested and his name was Cesar, I was under the impression that he was her father. I have five kids, all of whom used to be four years old. And something that took away one of their parents would have been devistating. She's on my mind because of all the video they showed of her.

Oh, and her name is spelled with a 'y'? That explains why I was having trouble gogling up news.

I think she looks like Carlos Beltran's daughter.

You can't post a comment like that without photoshopping an ear mole on her.

But I guess Zvon is our resident Photoshop expert.

They've positively ID'ed the body of Valery's mother. It was found in a Pennsylvania landfill.
