Aaron Lennon, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner,
Wayne Rooney, Emile Heskey.

Subs: James, Barry, Carragher, Carrick, Joe Cole, Crouch, Dawson, Defoe, Upson, Warnock, Wright-Phillips, Hart.

USA needs to exploit the England back-line....King and Terry are slow

USA team news

Being a veteran of televised sports in this country (and especially of ESPN) I knew in advance that there's no way this thing was going to be started at 1:30 ... but, geez, I thought by a little after 2 it would be going.
Kick the fuckiin' ball already!! I'm tired of watching the Astros hand the game to those other Yanks.

I think I've asked this before during some soccer tourney, but what's causing that buzzing noise from the stands? I assume it's some kind of noise-maker and not an attack of killer insects but are those horns of some sort?

Seems like typical USA play today. Controlling the ball well at mid-field, hesitant on the attack, and porous at defense.

Shit! The defense lets down again and Tim Howard gets injured making the save.

They are terrible at the back right?, they are trying to play the offside trap by pushing up but it's not working, and that's basic stuff.

I guess if this were a game of 'Clue', the prime suspect would be Mr. Green, in the goal-mouth, with the butter-fingers.

so if this game was on FOX/ESPN/YES they'd have to show you his parents over and over again, right?

Great performance by the USA....sure they got the lucky goal and England created chances in the second half but the US could have won the damn thing. several things.

1 ) An unheralded US midfield dominated a supposed great England midfield , a $100 million wouldn't buy you that English midfield. Gerrard and Lampard once again show that they just don't play well together as a central midfield pairing , Rooney was anonymous for most of the game, as a forward he spent most of the game chasing back for the ball....thanks to Bradley and Clarke and Dempsey...they ran all day......we talked about the England back four and you saw how old and slow the central pairing are....Altidore just showed what can be done with speed and control.....Howard was brilliant, he was always a great shot stopper, ironically the reason why Manchester United got rid of him was because he was prone to howlers like the Green one in his days there, he was very young then though.

This is an England performance that will get them slaughtered at home , I really liked how the US coach stayed positive , he wanted to go on and win it....that's great...

Great job.

The one question I have is what possible strategy did Bradley have in mind when he tried a substitution with seconds left in the game.

Exactly what happened, he killed vital seconds and in fact the ref blew the whistle while the substitution was being made. I guess he could have done it with two minutes left. I don't think I have ever seen a game end like that.

I would say so yeah , Bradley can look at this as a point gained, his team played well in patches and didn't fall apart after the early goal. The last thing you want there is a goal in the dying seconds of the game, USA have the momentum.England of course are getting hammered at home...."never got above the mundane" is a line that is typical of what I read.

Re: England Versus USA IGT

England isn't the one really hurt by this tie though, its Algeria/Slovenia that are hurt by this as either one had to hope that with a US loss here they could defeat the other team, still lose to England, and make the next round with a draw against the US and goal differential (England 9, Team A 4, USA 4, Team B 0)

Re: England Versus USA IGT

englad were terrible, it's a pity that Rob Green made the mistake because it's allowing them to ignore the fact that they've NO cohesion and purpose in the middle of the park. It's as simple as this, Lampard & Gerrard don't know how to get on the ball and just can't be relied on to play together unless you put a 3rd man in there. England are so lacking in courage as could be seen when Heskey & Wright PHillips' brutal finishing was highlighted.
USA were fine, but apart from Bradley & Donovan there wasn't anyone who showed any genuine thought on the ball. Howard had a decent game though, he's rounded out very well as a keeper.
