Who is Mark Cohoon?

And the reason he's not going to St. Lucie? Because he's going to Binghamton instead. His first start is tomorrow.

I forget where I read it but some prospect guru kind of liked Cohoon as a dark horse big league prospect: Not the stuff of greatness but very good at how he employs what he's got.

His first start in AA was a rocky one (5 runs and 11 hits in 5.2 IP), but it was also a winning one, thanks largely to a 4 for 5, 3 R, 3 RBI, 1 HR performance by Nick Evans.

Cohoon had his first strong outing at AA last night, going seven innings and allowing one run on three hits with a 5/0 K/BB ratio. He's been struggling at Binghamton to the tune of a 5.80 ERA (even after last night), but considering that the jump from high A to AA is considered to be the hardest in the minors and he was promoted from low A, it's reasonable to cut him some slack.

Cohoon just had his third straight quality start, after having none in his first eight tries at AA. His line for his last 3 games: 3-0, 20 IP, 15 H, 2 BB, 18 K, 1 HR, 4 ER. The caveat is that all three of these games came on more than five days rest, but it's definitely an encouraging sign.

Cohoon pitched eight shutout innings on Sunday (five days rest), and really appears to be on track after his initial struggles with the double jump.

99% sure this is Cohoon. (When you're surrounded by hundreds of players, many you've never heard of and all sorts of things going on ,sometimes you forget who you took a picture of. at least, I do. ) But this is him, He was warming up before his minor league game.

It looks like Cohoon, from what I can tell.
I found this looking for info. I haven't found definite word on where he's starting out, but I have to assume he'll be in Binghamton.

Cohoon's first start of the year was fair: 5 IP, 1 R, 7 H, 5 K, 2 BB. Binghamton was winning when he left, but Akron scored five runs over the next two innings to win 6-4.

Cohoon, not normally a strikeout pitcher, fanned 11 in 7 innings last night while giving up two unearned runs and notching his first win of the season. His line on the season so far: 3 G, 19.0 IP, 1-0, 0.47 ERA, 16 H, 20 K, 3 BB, 0 HRs allowed. A few more games like this and he'll be shuffling off to Buffalo sooner rather than later. I think the chances of seeing him in Queens in September are at least 50/50 at this point.

Two pickoffs last night, too. Freaky sh*t.

A BA Q&A doesn't rate Cohoon's ceiling all that high, but likes his fast start anyway.

You really have to like his location on those breaking pitches.

Cohoon made his first appearance in Buffalo last night, giving up five runs in five innings. I'm a bit surprised by the timing of the call-up, given that he'd been off his form a bit lately (he was homer-prone his last few starts in Binghamton.)

I figured I'd update this since it's been a while. His time in Buffalo last season was an unmitigated disaster (6.11 ERA over 18 starts), and he's back in Binghamton to start the year. The 2.50 ERA in 18 IP after 3 starts is good, but he has only 7 Ks so far. I think it will take a dramatic reversal of fortune to see him in Queens at this point.

He's a lefty. If he stays healthy, he'll see Queens.
