So, what are the chances Tejada plays? Fiance wants to see him before Castillo is activated (which seems like it won't be immediately, but today/tomorrow is our only chance to get to a game until July 5th. Manuel screwed us on the Sunday game in Baltimore in this regard. If I had to guess I'd say Cora plays today against Verlander.

Delay. Skies which had been looking mean for an hour or more finally opened up. (Just as I got home from picking up LWYP at LWWiserMotherer's house.) Hope it's a short one. Hawkman's nice and warm, while DabidRye and the boys are locked in to Auslander's tracers.

I had a dream the other night, and I only remember fragments, and it wasn't about the Mets or baseball. It occurred in the future and and I was having a conversation and an event came up that had already happened, and it was said just in passing. I don't put much stock in these things but I figured I better make note of it somewhere just in case it actually happens. On June 29th, in Puerto Rico, verse the Fish, the Mets will get their first no hitter.

Lots of fun, rainout notwithstanding. Although even that worked out, as it led to me running into Seaver in the elevator when returning to my seats. Thought Jerry was slow with the hook for Niese and really, with a 10 run lead at that point (or even 8 after the Boesch HR) I was totally behind Valdes time. Funny moment with Sporz recording his first major league strikeout of Niese (on the missed bunt) and the ball being rolled over to the Tiger dugout -- and Leyland tossed it into the crowd.

We took refuge on the field level during the delay to get our usual rain-delay card game going. Once the tarp was being taken off, we headed over to the elevator to go back up to our seats. Door opens and he's there in the back left corner. I see him immediately but it sure looked like nobody else in the elevator either saw him or was bothering him. As we wait for the elevator to fill up, the elevator operator is talking him to about working at the "Seaver" gate* and, look, here he is in her elevator! He's sort of smiling and thinking that she should stop bothering him. This gave me the opening to then say that "Everybody here's being polite and discreet but we all recognize you and know who you are" which made him laugh. *I didn't think there was a "Seaver Gate" at Citi Field...

"Rain Delay card game"? The Solos were there last night too, in covered promenade seats. The only brush with greatness (okay, semi-mediocre-ness) we had was that during the rain delay, "Pin Man" ran for cover and ended up in the seats behind us. He gave both of my kids pins. Cool. Undeniable facts about Pin Man: Carries a rain slick to every game ("can't get the pins wet. They'll rust my jersey.") with a hood ("don't want to short the lighted pins on my cap"). Also had this to say: "Cow Bell Man just has to get a new cow bell. How can I replace my pins and jersey?" None of those quotes were made up.

I congratulate Gwreck for having the wherewithal to utter anything more than heavy panting. Mrs. Fafif and I were in Excelsior/Caesars (so imperial!) when Tom was introduced to the crowd alongside the Veteran of the Game, a fellow Marine (Returning Vet being one of the really great things the Mets do throughout the season). We had a nice overhead view of the Franchise and were able to follow him visually out of the stands and into whatever tunnel Tom Seaver uses (a Terrific tunnel, no doubt). He's totally got his politician hat on in those situations, with his now familiar wave and point at the crowd, stopping to slap or shake a hand or two, but always hustling the hell out of there. I wasn't anywhere near him and my breath was still taken away. In an elevator, not even in retrospect, could have I said anything coherent let alone witty to him. I'd probably still be in the elevator right now. (I'd also be at a loss for words with Pinman, though probably for different reasons.)

We usually do 10-card gin rummy (just the 2 of us) but next time come find us and we'll get a game of Hearts or Hold'Em going. Last night we commandeered an otherwise unoccupied concession stand which doubled as a table and a place to sit.
