Forgot about it till now but this is the weekend that the Jays/Phillies will play 3 in Philadelphia with Toronto as the "home team," due to the G20 summit in Toronto.

Horseshit.

So, apart from batting last, this means what, exactly? That Blue Jays fans get to curbstomp any Philadelphians they want after the Jays lose? Take shits on Philly SUVs and vomit on police horses after the Jays win?

Re: OoTS Weekend 6/25-27

Nah, means the Phillies will get a taste of their own medicine in how easy it is to come back, and walk off, at that place. Especially with a DH. And the Blue Jays will get a taste of playing in front of fans, and see that they cheer a tad more than empty seats.

Prediction: Fans at a Blue Jays home game to set new franchise standard for bad manners.

Yes and yes. They will also use the DH.

The Phillies should also stay in the visiting dugout/clubhouse, eat shittier clubhouse food, and have venomous spiders in their bullpen.

Yah, but they don't get custody of the Phantic and he's the guy who relays the stolen signals.

btw, the AL lead in IL is down to 110-100 (52.3% - or about that of an 85 win team)

Re: OoTS Weekend 6/25-27

And I wouldn't want all of you forget what this IL weekend is really about: why it's the Yanx vs Torre of course!!
First time since he left them (or they left him, or whatever) and I almost wonder if the Yanx requested (and by 'requested' I mean 'demanded') that this series be played in LA where MFY mgmt wouldn't have to hear ol' Joe getting cheered on the hallowed grounds.

Michael Kay has gone out of his way recently to talk about how he and Joe aren't about to have any pow-wows. Was never real clear on what caused the split between them - maybe Kay thought Joe was stealing his credit of all those WS championships. I did hear him the other day talking about how he can't wait to get to LA so he could see and talk to his old friend -- [pause for effect] -- Don Mattingly. I guess we can add MK to the list of talking heads who wear as a badge of honor how disliked they are by some of the guys they cover(ed) or even even don't cover on a regular basis. M&MD were frequently big on that; "oh _____ wants no part of this show" - at least to the guys they weren't sucking up to. Benigno gets that way too on occasions; "I'm so tough on the Jets that their whole front office hates me"

Save your ego trips guys. Report the stories, don't become part of them.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, Carlos Zambrano went after another teammate in the dugout following a four-run first. Trade him for Ollie straight up.

The Phillies were actually known as the Blue Jays for a few seasons in the 1940s. They should do a turn-back-the-clock night and wear Philadelphia Blue Jays uniforms and really fuck with everyone's minds.

Phils up 9-0 in the 8th.
Braves up 2-1 in the 6th.
Carp.
Looks like that kid who's pitchin the no-no for the Dbacks will not last 9. Maybe, he's in the 8th, but up to 117 pitches.

On to the 9th in Atlanta so we get to see Wagner try and protect a 2-run lead.
The save, if he gets it, will be his career 400th.

I feel much better since the ump apologized for blowing a big call. It'll give us solace if the Mets end the year a game behind Atlanta.

Wow, that was a terrible call with the game on the line. That ball was outside even if it had been straight, but with it tailing away from Damon it wasn't even close. The ball was actually a little inside the right hand batters box when the Braves catcher gloves the pitch.

Re: OoTS Weekend 6/25-27

Arizona has the worst ERA in the NL and Tampa got 0, 5, and 2 hits off them in their series at home and was lucky to win even one (the middle) of the three.

Meanwhile Evan Longoria and BJ Upton scrapped in the dugout between innings apparently over Upton's lack of hustle - not an uncommon problem with BJ.

To be fair, Broxton's taller than the MFY, so he can hang a lot more ground-chuck onto his body than Fistpumps MacRivera in the other bullpen there.

More ground chuck, more room to hide suckage in the folds. Hence, Joba's giving up an insure-run, while Broxton Mama Casses the whole damn non-save.

Re: OoTS Weekend 6/25-27

If the Dodgers actually had managed to tie that thing up again after choking it away did they even have enough players to finish it out?
After double-switching Manny out an inning or two earlier for defense with a "safe" lead - LA led 5-0 and later 6-2 before bringing fat-ass into the game - both Manny's replacement, Garret Anderson, and also Russell Martin, promptly got tossed for arguing balls & strikes. Both actually looked to be good if borderline pitches but apparently Torre & the Dodgers were pissed about a few calls that Mariano got the previous night as well; 'Hey look, somehow this shoe wound up on my other foot'!

The world is finally finding out what Mets fans knew all along. The "genius of Joe Torre" was really Mariano Rivera.
