I like how the misplaced apostrophe in the headline makes it look like the Kingsport Mets have a roster that's 10 feet tall.

DRAFTED PITCHERS HIGHLIGHT 10' ROSTER

Kingsport-Ten college players from the 2010 amateur draft, including 7 pitchers, highlight the 2010 Kingsport Mets roster. The Kmets are the Rookie Appalachian League affiliate of the New York Mets. This summer represents the 30th season that the team has been in the community.

Highliting the roster are 6th round pick Jeffrey Walters from the University of Georgia, Kenny McDowall (8th round College of Southern Nevada), and Jacob DaGrom (9th round Stetson University). All three are right handed pitchers. Other pitchers from this years draft are RHP's Bret Mitchell (12th round Minnesota State), Michael Weldon (27th round Wayland Baptist University) and LHP's Adam Kolarek (11th round Maryland), Joshua Edgin (30th round Francis Marion). The position players represented from the draft are all infielders. Lucas Stewart (20th round Alabama-Birmingham), Brandon Brown (22nd Round South Alabama), and Justin Schafer (34th round California-Davis).

Other top prospects on the team include outfielder Junior Rodriguez who was a 2nd round selection in 2008 and right-handed pitcher Michael Herber who was a 7th round pick in the 08 draft. Both players spent the last 2 summers with the GCL Mets. Eighteen year old third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez who hit .290 with the GCL club last summer is also a player to watch.

Returning players to the team are left-handed pitcher TJ Chism (1-1, 5.12) and right-handers Samuel Taveras (1-3, 6.53), and Luis Rojas (0-1, 21.32). Richard Pena, who played 3B with the club in 2007, is back as a converted pitcher.

The Kmets open the season in Johnson City on Tuesday before playing their home opener on Thursday June 24. It will be the first of 34 home games. A fireworks show will follow the game.

I hope Justin Schafer makes it to the bigs sometime, if only for the Schafer points.

And I'm ready for the big A-Rod controversy over Aderlin Rodriguez.

The _second_ anyone calls him A-Rod Francesa will be all over it.

Nicknames have to come naturally.

But I think the kid should use something powerful yet snappy for his at-bat music... "Enter Sandman," for instance.
