I'm voting for Ollie.

Re: June 2010 NL Player of the Month Candidates

That would be Pitcher of the month.

Does Reyes have enough defensive value to compensate for Gonzalez's June offensive superiority? Discuss..........

Re: June 2010 NL Player of the Month Candidates

Right now, no. Gonzalez is pretty good defensively for his postion anyhow.

But in a day or two, the gap may narrow.

Well, yes... if Adrian goes oh-fer the next few days, and Dabidrye hits a HR in each game while going 3-3.

FannieGraphs says JoseJoseJoseJose has been a big defensive minus this year.

Yowza, they do. Although I can see what they're "seeing."

UZR's pretty huge on range, it seems. Until recently, his range has seemed really off-- he hasn't been getting to balls in either hole the way he has over the last 4 years or so. (As reflected in Fangraphs' RngR, or Range Runs Above Average, which is his worst ever measure at -3.7 already.)

Screw them. Besides that maybe he was a little slower getting up to speed this year, I've always thought Reyes was an extremely talented defensive SS. I wouldn't have balked at him having some gold glove awards.

I respectfully, very firmly disagree.

Still not much in the way of power from Milledge: 0 HRs so far, IsoP < 100, and 18 of his hits for XBHs (16 2Bs) -- but his BA & OBA are looking better.

Wright zeroes in on Gonzalez:

Wright and Gonzalez are almost neck and neck:

I wonder if the losing margin in the RC/27 race can be found in the caught-stealings.

I dunno. But don't forget that RC/27 is a theoretical stat and therefore, must have a margin of error. We can say for sure that in June, Wright outhomered Coghlan 6-3, but to say that Coghlan created 1.5 more runs is a hypothesis.

I think you gotta give it to DW. I believe the Mets were 18-8 in the month, that helps too.

Yeps. In the formulation, it's like him getting three fewer hits/walks.

I think so too. Though Gonzalez may get it, I think east coast bias/NY/18-8 will all play in David's favor.

But you could do this with any category of stat that favored Coghlan. For example, Coghlan had a significantly better walk rate. You could say that the extra walks gave Coghlan the edge over Wright in RC/27. Or Coghlan's extra doubles. If just one or two of Coghlan's doubles was a single, Wright would have the edge in RC/27. No?

Three doubles being singles does the same thing, too; there's a bunch of places you could locate the difference between them. I just meant that his being caught three times is one of those places-- that if he hadn't been caught those three times, he's putting up a better RC rate than Coghlan this month.

Yeah, but the Caught Stealings is one of those things you can have more control over by avoiding the practice entirely.
