Adopted Lucas Duda

The kid is already a college grad, so that will save dad a bunch of money. The lefty hitting LF/ 1B prospect was recently promoted to AAA, where he was the IL player of the week. CBSSportsline had a blurb about him today Lucas Duda, 1B NYM News: It is time to consider Lucas Duda (pronounced dude-uh), a seventh-round pick out of Southern California in 2007 by the Mets, a legit outfield prospect now. He has hit six homers in his past eight games for Triple-A Buffalo. Analysis: Duda is now a scorching .294 with seven homers, 20 RBI, 11 runs, 0 steals, a .372 on-base percentage and .706 slugging percentage in Triple-A. If you add his Double-A numbers before his mid-June promotion, he is a combined .288-13-54-41-1 (.400-.563). He has an impressive strikeout-to-walk rate of 1-to-1 going, too, fanning just 38 times in 229 at-bats. That is a reasonable rate for a developing slugger and at 6-feet-5, 240 pounds, Duda definitely has legit power now. His lower-level doubles are becoming homers and his strikeout rate is declining. Consider him a long-term keeper-league flier now as a potential corner outfielder.

"Zippity" Duda is the only righthanded power hitting prospect for the Mets playing at a higher level than A ball. That may be to his advantage when he is compared to the others (Kirk, Ratliff, Martinez, Lutz, et. al.) I'm not sure whether Evans is part of that group since he has already played in the majors. From a Q&A in BA: Frank (NYC): What do you think Lucas Duda's chances of hitting in the bigs are? He has absolutely crushed AAA this year. I know he's not a glove guy like Nieuwenhuis is, but reports say he isn't a train wreck in LF. Isn't it worth seeing if he can be an upgrade over Franceour in the order while playing LF for the rest of the season with Pagan in RF. Jim Callis: I'm not sure he's going to be a regular on a good club, but I concur that the Mets should give him an audition and find out.

Oops, just checked. I confused Duda with Lutz. Duda is the lefty batter, Lutz is the righty. He has played fewer than 10 games in right field in his minor league career, but plenty in left. Let's give the kid a shot. Later

Duda's hitting came on strong during his stint at AAA Buffalo, which began in late 2010. He simply crushed opposing pitchers. Duda's combined 2010-11 AAA line, prorated to 550 official AB's: AB: 550 2B: 35 3B: 2 HR: 46 BB: 81 AVG. .307 OBA. .396 SLG. .630 OPS. 1.026
