Zvon Jul 01 2010 06:24 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Yikes, Carter plays the karoom of the wall perfectly lucky and then he tries to throw the ball to me here in NJ.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 01 2010 06:26 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Between that and the lulu he threw in an "attempt" to get Cantu at the plate last night... he makes Damon look like Clemente.
|
Zvon Jul 01 2010 06:28 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
It hit of the pad on the wall top and man, was Carter lucky that shot off the wall into his glove.

Omir Santos would have blocked that.

Oh, Spock. Logic has no place in a Willie Harris-inhabited atmosphere.

Of course it's Harris.

Igarashi coming on cold to face Zimmerman with nowhere to put him.

Fman99 Jul 01 2010 07:50 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
How do the Mets only have one run against these crumb-bums?
|
The Second Spitter Jul 01 2010 07:50 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
I know --if it's any consolation Ryota whiffed the 3 hitters he faced yesterday.

metsguyinmichigan Jul 01 2010 07:53 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Tipping his pitches? Santana might as well say, "Belt-high changeup coming your way" and get it over with since they're not going to score more than a damn run for him anyway.
|
The Second Spitter Jul 01 2010 07:54 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Sucky losses suck.

Horrible.
|
Rockin' Doc Jul 01 2010 07:55 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Well, that was pretty nasty, but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Fall behind with curves out of the zone and then you're forced to throw him a fastball and Zimmerman had to be salivating, waiting for it.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 01 2010 07:56 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Awesome.
|
smg58 Jul 01 2010 08:07 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
It all starts with failing to throw strikes to a guys with a sub-.600 career OPS against lefties (and a .357 OPS so far this year). I can forgive not making the play on the Morgan bunt, and I can shrug my shoulders at Manuel leaving him in to face Guzman even though he's much better righthanded. But Harris was about as likely to get a hit in that spot as a pitcher would have been, and walking him is just not excusable.

Ashie62 Jul 01 2010 08:09 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Willie Harris is one pesky gnat

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 01 2010 08:31 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
They really been exhibiting many of the rotten qualities they showed back in April and May this past week or so: Not enough power, pitchers collapsing with two out and nobody on, itchy bullpen trigger, overworked relievers losing it, hopelessness in tie games on the road. Maybe we'll start bunting more now.

bmfc1 Jul 01 2010 09:06 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Back from a horrible evening at Nationals Park. Their fans suck so much that they now have a male cheerleader on each side. The dope on our side wore a colored wig, blew a whistle and danced to every at bat song. I hated him almost as much as I hate their mascot, the effeminate chicken. (The only good thing is that if you give the Gifford's ice cream guy a buck, he'll give you an extra scoop--it's supposed to be $3.)

bmfc1 Jul 01 2010 09:31 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
In the post-game press conference, Jerry was asked why Rodriguez wasn't used in the 9th. He said "that's not what a closer does." Of course, what Jerry doesn't comprehend is that when you're on the road, there is no save situation and the bottom of the 9th is sudden death. While Jerry was searching for a role for his closer, his 4th best (at most) reliever was brought into the game.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 01 2010 09:51 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Actually there is a save to be had on the road, if they preserve the tie and score. There's no save for the home team in extras.
|
bmfc1 Jul 02 2010 04:50 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
You're right JCL, but I don't like limiting your closer, your best reliever, for something that might not occur.
|
G-Fafif Jul 02 2010 05:46 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
Jerry, after the last two losses, has given convoluted explanations that boil down to "I will not use my closer in a tie game on the road because I will not use my closer in a tie game on the road." Even he doesn't sound like he believes it's brilliant managing to cut out that option from the start.
|
Edgy DC Jul 02 2010 06:37 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Nats - July 1st |
It may well be that Jerry's managing genius has helped the team win the games they win. It's certainly helped them lose the games they lose as well.

This game marked the 100th time that the Mets played the Washington Nationals. (They're 57 and 43 against Washington.)

"All the walk-off losses on the road, that's indicative of the eighth-inning guy. That's when he pitches. That's the way it works. That's baseball." |

Letting quotes like that escape into print... well, somebody needs a toungelashing from Obama.

I have a better question that someone should have asked Jerry.
