Reyes: Either he plays or he goes on the DL. This is just getting stupid and of course exactly how Omar and the Mets typically mismanage these situations. First it was going to be Friday, then Saturday, then Sunday. Now it's Monday and he's still not in the lineup. Unacceptable.

I'll play Omar's Advocate here: Maybe one more day is really one more day. Instead of losing him for two weeks, the six days out are what he needs and he comes back and is healthy vs. the Braves this weekend in what looms as the most important series the Mets have played since the end of 2008. Put him on the DL and there's no chance he'll be available against Atlanta. It's a gamble, but not without an upside.

Re: Son, Life is Simple IGT 7/5/10

I know that, as of the moment, the Reds are the highest scoring team in the NL - by 20 runs over 2nd place Milwaukee
Yeah the home park helps, both in terms of games played there to date (46 Home - 37 Away) and in RS/G at home vs on the road (5.39 vs 4.54) but 1st is still 1st.

Re: Son, Life is Simple IGT 7/5/10

MLB should have a 7-day DL but the owners are too cheap because they'd be forced to add players more often.

Meanwhile, who is the back-up MI if Reyes can't play? The bench tonight is Barajas, Blanco, Feliciano, Carter, Reyes.

Jeff Francoeur – RF
Rod Barajas – C
Alex Cora – 2B
Mike Pelfrey – RHP

It's Military Appreciation Night. It's the Fifth of July. It's Pyrotechnics Night. It's the first time the Mets have been home since Juy 4. It's still the holiday weekend. Fred Wilpon is a driving force behind the Welcome Home Veterans program for which caps with the red, white, blue are sold with 100% of proceeds going to that effort.

So why aren't the Mets wearing those caps?

I'm Jason Bay. I too became your tying run. I sucked it up however. Good night.

At least it's a little comforting to know that any Reds fans watching/listening have that Frankie feeling watching their closer. It makes me feel like I'm part of some larger tapestry.

Not as comforting as the middle of your lineup-- Dabidrye notwithstanding-- doing what they're supposed to and kicking the crap out of shitty Frankie Cordero. But hey... I take comfort where I can get it these days.

Pelfrey stunk, the Mets stopped hitting, but F those umps--they get should get the Reds game ball. Two awful calls in one inning--that's one above their quota for the entire game.

Re: Son, Life is Simple IGT 7/5/10

Felt like we lost it after we failed to build on the momentum after Nieve struck out the side in the seventh, and went in order instead. In fact, the team was 0-9 after that, with Wright's walk the only scratch the last three innings.

Tonight isn't cherry red. It's midnight blue.

Re: Son, Life is Simple IGT 7/5/10

I was extremely pleased to see them not roll over and die after the 6-run top of the 5th.

I was extremely displeased with stupid bunts (let's not forget Francoeur's abomination of a bunt attempt to start the bottom of the 4th) and bad managing. Full disclosure: Once we chased Wood, I was thinking it might've been good to hit Thole for Barajas with the righty reliever coming on (and of course Rod then hit the RBI cheapie).

The "pyrotechnics" show was ok, but not as good as I remember Shea's most recent (2005) fireworks night. Shot them off from the roof and from handtrucks in centerfield but they were mostly the "after homerun" fireworks and not the "big flowery boom" fireworks you would see on the East River.

They kept trying to blow up Shea clear into 2006, actually. It was July 3 against the Pirates and my thumb nearly came off -- though not from pyrotechnics. (Also I exaggerate about my thumb, but it did sting.)

With the rampage back from 7-1, I was thinking Son of Ten-Run Inning. But that's all it was...a thought.

I had thought they didn't do in 2006 because of construction but clearly a faulty memory (and a failure to attend on my part, too).

They had just begun to sink a few stakes into the ground a couple of weeks earlier so I guess it was safe to shoot off rockets. The real shock was in late August when I left through Gate A for what I thought would be a no-fuss walk through the parking lot to the subway and it was all blocked off. Damn, I thought, they're really building this thing.

How about Charlie Manuel? Pissing off Joey Votto just in time to make him take it out on the Mets.
