OOTS - Heading toward the All Star Break

Johan was masterful in leading the Mets to victory tonight.

Meanwhile, the Phillies and Braves are deadlocked at 3 in the 10th inning in Philadelphia. I'm hoping they take another 10 innings to finally decide this one.

Re: OOTS - Heading toward the All Star Break

I suppose we're rooting for the Braves to lose so the Mets can gain a game in the standings, but rooting for the Phillies just makes me feel ... dirty.

I'm rooting for a 60-inning game.

Re: OOTS - Heading toward the All Star Break

I keep trying to envision a scenario that would result in a double forfeit. Lacking that, I keep hoping for a long drawn out battle that exhausts the physical and mental reserves of both teams.

With that, the Braves jump out to a 6-3 lead in their half of the 11th. We need a three run rally form Philadelphia.

The Phillies are cooked for this season. The body language on some of their players is très glum.

Actually, the Phillies are roughly right around where they were, record wise, last year. This is the team they are, this is as good as they are.

The Braves I'm not so sure about. You always want the team in front to lose though, even if the team behind wins. sorta a 'control your own destiny' kinda way, and we can beat up on the Braves ourselves shortly.

However, hard to actually 'root' for any of 'em.

Re: OOTS - Heading toward the All Star Break

No, the Phillies had an excellent second half last year, with a big dollop of help from Cliff Lee and Pedro Martinez.

Who knows? Maybe they'll land some more big fish this year, but right now, they're bracing to play shorthanded.

They also weren't facing two months of Wilson Valdez playing second. (Now there's a reason to vomit on a five-year-old.)

Re: OOTS - Heading toward the All Star Break

Phils actually had the exact same record thru 81 games this year and last (43-38)
The difference is that last year they were 2 games up instead of 4 down.

Rockies just scored 9 in the 9th against the Cards for a 12-9 win.
A Seth Smith 3R HR ended it. Ryan Franklin's line: 0.1 IP, 6 runs, 6 hits.

I almost feel like it's too early for the annual "here come the Rockies" moment.

Phils are an aggregate 8 games back in the division and 8 in the WC. FUtley won't be back til mid-August. I'm pronouncing them.

Don't be a douchebag and prevent your team from scoring a run:

(look for the fan interference video.)

Looks like security actually ejected him, thankfully. There needs to be a zero-tolerance policy for that stuff.

I like how he then tosses the ball back as if that would somehow negate his interference.

If i was the Royals RF that ran over, I would've offered to sign the ball for the kid.

I second that.
TOD: listed [crossout]below[/crossout]above(OE) right.

Unless they jump up off the metal slab they are laying on and
start to do the zombie dance, ya gotta root for them to beat the Braves.
Ya gotta...

I didn't need the sound up for this.
This is a classic story through facial expressions.
I'd like to see this re-enacted by mimes.

Re: OOTS - Heading toward the All Star Break

btw, did anyone notice that "Mr. Unclutch" hit his 3rd Grand Slam of the season and 21st of his career last night in Oakland?
That puts him tied with Manny and 2 behind Gehrig for the all-time mark. He's also 3 HRs now short of 600

His 21 have come in 248 bases-loaded PAs, while his teammate and all-time clutchest person on earth has 1 in 244 such PAs

Last night's White Sox-Angels game at Comiskey was a double complete game: only 5 hits and three walks combined as John Danks (2 hitter) beat Ervin Santana (3 hitter) , 1-0, in 1:50.

Not just the Howard's HR in the 10th, but Cody Freakin' Ransom HR'd in the 9th inning comeback, as did Dobbs.
Hell, I think O'Rourke and Agarn might have hit one too.

I had this game on too. :(

Was talkin to a Phils fan today and he was sayin how they have phloundered. I told him that a Met fan friend and I pronounced them dead a few days ago.
He said "I agree".
I said " OHHHHH NOOOOOES!, you can't agree! That'll change everything! Now next time I turn around the Phils are gonna be up the Mets ass."

Oy.

Reds at Phillies tonight:

Travis Wood (CIN) has 8 perfect innings.
Roy Halladay has thrown 9 shutout innings (5 hits).

Tied at 0-0 going to the bottom of the 9th.

Phils break up the no-no in the 9th then go on to win their 3rd straight extra-inning walk-off
This one was a Rollins single in the 11th
Yesterday was a Howard 2R HR
Day before was a Brian Schneider HR

Cliff Lee (9 IP, 6 R, 9 H) gets out-pitched vs Baltimore and Chris Tillman (1 R, 2 H, 7 IP)

- Phils sweep a 4-game w/Cincy while only out-scoring them by 5 runs.

- Orioles sweep a 4-game [u:3p7gxux8]in Texas[/u:3p7gxux8] - including Lee's first game w/the Rangers

- ChiSox, losers of one game in July, take over 1st place in AL Central

Last 3 by the Phils were walkoff wins.
They hadn't done that in....I think the news said 97 years.
You know me though.
They probly said 9.7 years.
