IGT - Braves at Mets, July 10, 2010

Willets Point
Jul 10 2010 06:32 AM

I'm surprised there's no IGT already since they seem to be started at least two days in advance these days. At any rate I'm jumping in to start my first of the season and change the mojo for the Mets.

Old & busted Tim Hudson starts for the Braves while new, future Cy Young winner Mike Pelfrey starts for the Mets. Expect some ass-kicking by the Mets offense and a complete silencing of the Braves bats.

I'm ready!

Re: IGT - Braves at Mets, July 10, 2010

Reserving the right to change my mind, but I kind of liked Kevin Millar last week, until late in the game, anyway, when I hated everybody. There was a hint of Dizzy Dean to him. I had dreaded the Buck-McCarver combo, per usual. Buck still sucks, but at least it was different.

Albert's a pro (a legacy broadcaster who appears to have worked at his craft, as opposed to Joe Buck). Hopefully he'll keep Millar on the relatively straight and narrow. I think he has potential. Couldn't believe how much I didn't hate Millar, actually. I hate Eric Karros, to use an example of Fox dragging someone into the booth just off the playing field. Mark Grace is another one who's awful.

A Mets win makes everybody sound better...except for Joe Buck. And I didn't care for his father either.

Adam Rubin says that word in the clubhouse is that the Mets might open the 2011 season against the Marlins in Puerto Rico. Nothing against Puerto Rico, but after watching Reyes get hurt on the artificial turf, how can they agree to this?

Also, Beltran bats cleanup on Thursday.

Ya know, if they appreciated it down there and over packed that awful field I'd be more okay with this (from a PR...PUBLIC RELATIONS!...perspective.)

Me, from yesterday:
Reyes should be up on the shelf.
He is our switch hitting speedster lead off hitter. If he's too injured to do two of those things, I don't think he should play.
He is a WAY to important cog in our engine.
If he ends up injured for any long length of time, we are in serious trouble.

Mike Vacarro from todays Post:
"They don't need to see Reyes go away for 15 days. They do not need to see their engine go on the same shelf where he spent most of 2009."

Hey Mike, why don't we actually get together and bash out these articles.

$$$$. Seriously. Between the Mets' Puerto Rican players and the thousands of Puerto Ricans who are Mets fans in NY and in Miami, it makes sense. Ben Grimm's trip to Puerto Rico this past month has me thinking of a road trip to see the Mets in PR if they play there in 2011.

[quote="bmfc1":2o270ha3]I was happy when Jesus Feliciano was called up--great story, .385 average--but has he shown us anything to justify staying around when Beltran comes back? Thole catches R.A. and Carter has some pop but does Felciano add anything?[/quote:2o270ha3]

The ability to play all three OF positions and an extensive knowledge of Northern NY eateries?

He's walked once in 57 PA, so that .278 average gives him a sub-.290 OBP.

Millar just called Wright a professional hitter. Indeed, the Mets normally choose their batters from a group of amateur players congregating in the Home Depot parking lot.

Once Beltran comes back the 5th OFer is going to PH lots and play the field little if at all.
Carter's the batter man for that spot than Feliciano.

Agreed upon , it was dismal and much as he tried to make it better , and God did he try , Millar made the viewing worse.

I don't expect anything else form Millar though, everyone is a great guy , the clubhouse is full of leaders , when he said about Francoeur and it being a year to the day since the trade" he's hit about .275 in that year", he made it seem like it was .375.....
