Meanwhile, it's been almost two years since a Met has been named National League Player of the Week. A Mets player has been named NL POTW 74 times, and 44 distinct players have won. I was sure that Skip Lockwood was a player of the week. He was. It was SI's award -- not MLB's.

I thought maybe that was (Rockville Centre's own) Beaver Smith on defense, because I first (and second) read that headline as "Julius Erving Rips Beaver."
