IGT 16 July 2010, Mets/Giants, Get Your Nap in Early

Fman99
Jul 16 2010 05:52 AM

Tonight's start pushed back to a near-comical 10:35 so that the Giants can honor Jon Miller and his loud pastel shirts in a pre-game ceremony.

Niese v. Zito is your pitching matchup...

Re: IGT 16 July 2010, Mets/Giants, Get Your Nap in Early

Reyes is likely to play tonight as well, against the lefty.

I understand the extra rest thing, but now, after a loss and 2-5 over their last seven, I do kinda wish Santana was pitching tonight.

I would say that Frenchy is more likely to start than Jose tonight.

Gotta show some confidence in Niese and hope that the offense can keep up tonight. Zito has been better this year, but he is beatable.

Also, I saw that my double Leon Lett pics in yesterday's IGT was either too obscure or too stupid to start the "Let's Go Mets" pic-a-thon (2 x Leon Lett = Letts = Let's...ugh, nevermind), so:

Re: IGT 16 July 2010, Mets/Giants, Get Your Nap in Early

Cora's batting eighth, where he more or less belongs. (I'd bat Cora fourteenth, but that's just me.) This move is wholly undermined by leading with Tejada. Also, Wilpon's managers --especially Manager Small Balls-- tend to think that the second and eighth spots in the batting order are interchangeable and can be filled by the same batter.

And he went from being a cute harmless rubber guy to a most dangerous accident waiting to happen.

Pokey always outlasted him cause you never really played with him. You just had him stand off to the side.

Cora's throw home was sorta on-target, but Only Mildly Pulsating Sensation can't get the tag down in time. 1-0, Large People.

I'm not sure that was the "veteran move" there. More like the kind of forced play that an overconfident veteran might make.

Frenchy fly down the left field gets the Burrell treatment (eyes off the ball drop of a makeable play).

Frenchy does not take advantage of Mr. Zito's misfortune, and goes so far as to swing at a fastball that nearly shaves him. How obligingly polite.

I would have liked to see OMPS taking that throw on the side of the plate he would block. And if he was standing there, maybe Cora puts that throw there.

Re: IGT 16 July 2010, Mets/Giants, Get Your Nap in Early

Beltran strikes out to end it. Somehow his right hand but not his left came off the bat early in his follow through, batting lefty. Getting shut out makes me sad.

[quote="Valadius"]When did we bring up the Baltimore cast-off?

When they sent Evans down.
This was because they don't know how much longer Reyes will be unable to play, and needed another middle infielder.

When Jerry said he likes to start a series with a knuckleball pitcher because it messes up the hitters*, I don't think he meant his own team's.

Smart move with Turner.

Would that they had some sort of set-aside list onto which they could shunt a disabled player like Reyes.
