No Mets BP today. Field was occupied by the Giants' family softball game.

Your CPF well repesented at this game - hat tip to bmfc1 for stopping by to say hi.

Cha-cha bowl and garlic fries both very much lived up to expectations.

I watched the end of the Phils / Cubs game today, tuned in during the 9th, Phils down 1-0.
My brother was over I said, "Phils down 1-0 in the 9th. Now watch, they will find a way to tie the game in the 9th. Mets can't scratch out a run and I bet the Phils find a way", and they did, and went on to win, and I just knew this was not gonna be a good day in baseball.

Hello from San Francisco. And a lousy time was had by all, at least those rooting for the Mets.

The highlight of the night was meeting Gwreck and Caryn. I ended up seeing them three times, twice by chance (Gwreck rocking the Pelfrey shirt stood out).

The ballpark is nice enough but I was in no mood to give praise to a facility with such obnoxious home fans. The big guy to my right leaned over the arm rest as soon as I started cheering the Mets. The senile guy in front kept standing up to block my view. When I said that I traveled across the country for the game, he said "we don't want you here." Nice. I've been treated nicer in Philadelphia.

We didn't get a bobblehead because the choice was an hour in line or seeing the place. The corridors are way too narrow--it was difficult to walk around in the early innings. The food choices are too esoteric; I wanted to get my son ice cream (despite the cold) and there was only one place and the line was too long.

The setting is nice and yes, it gets cold. The in-house wi-fi, the first in the country, is overrated. You can go to a website on your mobile, select the food you want and it says where the closest sections are. That's a nice feature, but the highlights sent directly to a special website are the same ones on the excellent scoreboard. They stop fans from walking down the aisle during an at bat and that's very good (Nats Park should do that). Also good: an employee comes around to collect recyclables in the 8th inning.

The fans are stupid: the wave; the medium fly balls that are cheered in anticipation of a home run; and when Tejada was beaned, the woman behind me said "does he want his mommy?" The caper on the evening was on the escalator as we left. Kid yells "go home Yankees" and his Dad says "Mets." The kid goes "Mets" and the Dad says "same difference."

And just try to get a cab after the game.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience. We liked the park in 2000, but we weren't there to see the Mets.

I love the food there - it was the best in the majors IMO. But I do recall the ushers were very heavy handed about where you were allowed to stand during Batting Practice, threatening to eject people who wandered over to an area that was deemed off limits.

Gwreck
Jul 18 2010 10:28 AM
Re: IGT 7/17/10 - David Looking To Topple The Goliaths!

I really did like the park quite a bit, but on the "was it as nice as Pittsburgh?" "Was it as nice as Seattle?" it doesn't quite surpass those (Although I do disagree with bmfc1 about the food -- I liked that quite a bit).

I do agree though that there were a LOT of really, really obnoxious Giants fans. And this wasn't Philly or the Bronx where there is usually a pretty high percentage of Mets fans behaving badly while on the road. There might've been 5% Mets in the house but after my own experience, plus what bmfc1 reported along with another Mets fan I caught up with in attendance, and the reports all being similar I don't think it was just a small sample of people. I don't really get it either -- we're not the freaking Dodgers (or Athletics) fans.

As for the game itself, I saw JCL mention that Carlos' pursuit of deep fly balls wasn't exactly Beltran-like and I'd have to agree. The triple was very encouraging for the running but one of my favorite parts of the Carlos Beltran experience is that every fly ball seems to get caught, and that certainly wasn't the case. at this game. Hopefully this is just an adjustment period because if we want to win anything this year he's going to need to be very sharp at Citi Field.

I also thought using Rodriguez in the meaningless 8th inning was stupid.
