I think they forgot their bats

I knew the offense was desperately lacking of late, but I had no idea just how bad the offense had been until analyzing the numbers in the games since the All Star break. In the 10 games since the break, the Mets have collectively posted a team batting average of .194 (69 of 356). The Mets have almost as many strike outs (68) as they do hits (69), while drawing only 24 walks in 99 innings. The team OBP during this dismal stretch is a pathetic .211. Considering the near total collapse of the offense, the Mets have probably been fortunate to have scored a grand total of 23 runs (22 earned) in the 10 games.

For the most, the starting pitching has given the team a solid chance of winning most of the games. The starting pitching has provided 6 very good outings, 2 decent outings, and 2 disastrous outings. In 8* of the games, the Mets starters combined to post a 2.37 ERA by allowing only 14 earned runs over 53 innings.

*Excluding Takahashi's disastrous start in SF and Pelfrey's Arizona debacle.

Re: I think they forgot their bats

With today's game (7 for 32 w/ 1 walk), the Mets actually raised their team batting average and OBP for the road trip. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to prevent wasting another good pitching performance and yet another loss as the Mets were shut out for the 4th time in 11 games.

Through 11 games and 108 innings: BA .196 OBP .214 ER 22 BB 25 K's 73

The team best find their bats and learn how to use them in a hurry before all hope is lost for the season.

I'm at a total loss. Everybody's finally back, and this happens. Mediocre offensive output would have won us all three series.

They've gone into radical slumps before but to stay down as long as they did, especially following Friday's win with such a dud yesterday, really killed it for me.

I'm sure they will start hitting at some point but it could be too late by then.

How about starting a homestand with a new manager?
