CPF Running Club Shirts!

Fman99
Jul 24 2010 10:49 AM

Who's in? What size do you want? Let's pick a design and fabric, and what it would say.

I was thinking it could say something like: Crane Pool Forum Running Club: Mets Fans on the Run (or words to that effect), with a picture of a runner wearing a Mets cap maybe?

Second Spitter suggested we put one of MM's quotes on the back...

1) the first step is admitting you're a runner.
2) running is a mental sport, and we're all insane.

So far from the other thread we've got these parties who'd want one:

Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

I'd be interest in purchasing one. I second the idea that the shirts be made of drytech type material rather than cotton, if possible. I think it should be in either Mets Blue or possily based on the pinstriped uniforms. As far as the quotes go, I'm probably more in the camp with those that prefer the first quote, "The first step is admitting your a runner."

We should gather design ideas and then see if we can design a basic prototype in this thread. Should be intersting to see what we each have in mind.

My personal view is that having the initials CPF7 (as opposed to EK7) on the patch would be redundant on the account of the fact the shirts will contain the entire forum name on the back and possibly the words "CPF Running Club" on the front. However, I am happy to be convinced otherwise.

I'm kind of, um, indifferent to a cpf running tshirt but as Rock N. Dock said, I prefer that wicky light stuff they have these days as a amterial and would suggest the less crap on it the better generally.

Anyway. if you all are looking to do a run as a team or as individuals, I mentioned somewhere that my friend Meg from college had a horrible thing happen last year, her 13 year old Met lovin son died of a rare cancer. They are having a 5K in his honor on Sunday Sept. 12 in Wilmington DE. I can post more deets if you're interested, I know it's an impossible trip for some, but that's the next 5K on my sked.

I through this together real quick as a possible starting point. It definitely needs an insignia for the front, but I'm not sure how to do something "Metly" without infringing on MLB copyrights. Obviously, someone without greater graphic art design skills needs to do our final design, but I thought this might be a starting point. If this isn't even close to what others envisioned, that's fine too. It was fun playing around with this.

i like the idea that it looks a little like a record, is black, has a big orange dot, and has a black drop shadow.

ok, so maybe that one needs work.

how's this instead? (love that drop shadow!)

i could go either way on the text. the first quote was from a nike shirt that i bought right about the time i started putting together my running career; it deserves some of the credit. the second quote is from our xc team - i have it on the back of a bunch of our practice shirts. so long as its not overly fussy, fontwise.

That's awesome, too.

I don't know how far the elements of the Mets logo carries into copyright. But...

Say you take the Mets logo -- blue version, of course, and take out the wordmark, so all you have is the skyline and the stitches. Then, replace the white bridge with a white line, maybe with a slight arc to it. Then, have silhouetted white runners on road. In the space where the Mets wordmark is, you could have:

Cranepool Forum
Running Cub

centered in block letters.

I wish I had the graphic skills you guys have so I could show you!

Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

I really like the baseball diamond logo. It even has the pinstripes which is awesome. I think it would look great on the front of the shirt similar to what I originally posted.

I would personally vote to dump the 7 from the shirt, since most people would have no idea what it represented any way. I also think that if we try to incorporate to much detail on the shirt it ends up looking cluttered. I felt the back of the original design I posted was too cluttered, but I thought it would be a good starting point for us to work from.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 26 2010 08:17 PM
Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

I used a generic graphic available from the design site to represent marathon's nice baseball diamond logo. I think this is neater and less cluttered. The logo is sized to be 6" x 6", but looks a little small in relation to the overal design of the shirt. I tried using blue letters with an orange outline , as in marathon's logo, but I'm not sure tha worked too well. Unfortunately, I have no grart software on my computer so I'm rather limited by the design site of the shirt company I found on the internet.

Absolutely superb contributions. Can I offer two suggestions:
(1) Can you invert the words "Running Club" on the diamond logo so it's not upside down?

(2) Can "CPF Running Team" be written in a curve text, from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock clockwise on a watch dial, the logo in the centre and the quotation going from 9 to 3 anti-clockwise on the bottom

I don't wanna be that guy, but between the squares, diamonds, circles, stripes, two fonts, CAPS, non-caps, text in every direction etc ... that's an awful lot happening on one shirt. I'd feel like all that would weigh me down and make me slow.

I don't have the time or skills to render it but the diamond small on the breast would be OK, maybe with a rendering of Craney the Crane inside instead of the pinstripes and mound.

Here's Craney:

Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

I had two further ideas:

(1) That logo would look awesome on a royal race cap. It could be done at this place. (Although I think they require a minimum of 36 for full customization options). I’m sure we could easily reach that number if some of the non-runners on the forum bought one.

(2) If you have the desire/time to design a cycling logo for the CPFCC jersey, I’ll name my first born metsmarathon. I’m sure there’s enough demand for one here -- Gwreck, soupy, Rockin’ Doc, Centrefield (?), Frayed Knot (?), me and anyone else. Here's a cycling jersey template. No pressure if you can't manage it. Luckily, this particular virus appears to be more of an annoyance than anything serious. I have actually eliminated it on numerous occasions, but it appears that it is hiding somewhere that the multitude of malware and antivirus programs I have run can't get to it. So every few days it pops back up again and I have to eliminate it once again.

Best of luck ridding your computer of the virus.

Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

I ran in my singlet this morning - it was VERY comfortable!

I'm still interested in a long-sleeved women's tee when it's convenient for you.

And thanks mm - the singlets were well worth the wait :)

Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

i'm still very much afraid that there's a typo in there somewhere. in fact, i never really noticed it before, but i just read it really quickly as "running is a menial sport and we're all insane"

it still made sense.

i'm really glad the shirts came out nicely. i was truly afraid of pixellated graphics and itchy, scratchy fabric.

The fabric is fabulous - very light and easy to wear.

Whoopsie, I ran six miles today and forgot to try out the new digs. Will attempt to remember this on Thursday's run.

Here's me bleary eyed at 6am this morning just before a run. I dig the new shirt!

I'd still love a long-sleeved tee. I use that kind of layer all the time.

Re: CPF Running Club Shirts!

Wore it last week to run four miles on a particularly hot day and I was very happy with it. Comfortable and lightweight.
