When I coached kids baseball, I never coached a "travel" team which had a good hitter at every spot in the lineup. I had to choose whether to space the bad hitters throughout the lineup or group the good and bad hitters. Jerry's grouped the good and bad hitters.

Dickey's not bad backup behind Castillo, methinks, should Luis manage to stumble his way on base.

BTW, why doesn't Castillo, who's known for taking pitches until-- hell, past the point at which-- it hurts, change things up a bit, and swing at a 2-0 pitch for once? THEY'RE THROWING IT RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE ON 2-0 or 3-0 BECAUSE THEY DON'T RESPECT YOU AS A HITTER, MAN-- HAVE SOME PRIDE AND HELP YOURSELF BY DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT. (Also, TWO HANDS!)

Offense and defense. Been generally solid, with a couple of sterling plays to keep balls in the infield/get an out where one was difficult to find. Also, some hitz.

And yeah, JCL: My nips have just graduated from green tea to bourbon-and-iced-tea. So Hessman's saved me from sober boredom, anyhow.

I had hoped to make it clear that I was implicitly acknowledging the upside to all those moves, even though I think they are frequently enough the moves Jerry hangs himself with, particularly as I ended the list by giving Jerry a hand. I think "pull" can certainly mean "pull for a pinch-hitter," Mr. Safire.

The one bit of Jerry-business with which I had a problem-- aside from the Hessman PH appearance, with which I was only mildly grumbly-- was the bunt after the leadoff Castillo double (the 5th, I think?). So, yeah, a no-out bunting-over from scoring position into double-secret-extra scoring position, made to look all the worse when Castillo didn't break on contact, instead standing on third attempting to wish foul Reyes' subsequent deep grounder to first. Everything else made sense, really.
