IGT, 8/6, Mets@Phils

Edgy DC

Jon Niese has one career start against the Phils and they barely touched him.

That was back in the Days of Throb.

Re: IGT, 8/6, Mets@Phils

Theoretically, then, he should be able to kick the living shit out of them, do parking-lot donuts with their fancy cars, and make love to their WAGs before they make it out of the postgame clubhouse.

Of course, that's why they play the stupid games.

That whole Bay thing still has me shaking my head.
Not violently tho.

I mean, we all saw the snap back he suffered with our own eyes when it happened.
It was violent and everything in his head had to be somewhat rattled as a result.
I'm no doctor but I would have proceeded, after seeing the footage, as if something should be wrong there.
As far as letting him play, sure, he showed no symptoms. But there was an off day there for the flight back,
and why, esp with our experiences with this kind of thing, didn't they have him travel by ground as a simple precaution?

Not only do I get blacked out from seeing this game on MLB.TV (first time this year, shouldn't this be a consistent thing? I have been blocked from the Comcast feed all other games but not SNY. Tonight, both), I have to sit through this Philly Wall Of Fame pukeworthy bullshit (I can view this on reg ol fashioned TV).

Isn't this like proof of retardation?
I understand how Jerry wants to make this team into small ball gangsta beeatches, but isn't this a bit much?
It worked out for one run, sure, but Castillo has been making solid contact lately and there were no out.
Are there not more preferable options there?

It sure didn't look like it to me.
Someone should tap Louie on the shoulder and remind him that he's hitting 8th tonight.

The pitching change was stupid but it didn't matter.
There was no point in this entire game where I thought the Mets had even a remote shot at winning.
The only ball I can recall a Met hitting remotely hard was Reyes lining out to CF and you're not going to win getting 4 singles, 1 walk, and barely getting the ball out of the infield otherwise and all against a pitcher with a 6.00 ERA

This is very true (hitting wise)but I really felt confident from when Hawk Kd the side in the 4th to when he was removed.

Niese labored through the first 2 1/3 then cruised through the 7th. Once again Jerry goes against the hot hand by looking at that godd%&&$m pitch count. You are allowed to go against the book once in a while, Jerry.

Let us not forget though, and Gary and Keith sure reminded us enough, that Blanton has been just about the worst starter in the NL. We did nothing against him.

Oh, and now we decide to put a couple of guys on base.

Well, y'know, any time you can pull a guy who's set at "mowdown" on his internal cruise control, having set down 13 of 15, having not allowed a hit in 4+ innings, and having thrown 40 pitches in the last 5 innings, you've GOT to make that move.

I went to see Derek Jeter get shot tonight in "The Other Guys" (I almost applauded) so I missed most of this mess.

Regardless of whether the decision to pull Niese was right, all Parnell and P. Feliciano have to do is get three outs. Parnell got 21 one of them. The offense didn't do enough against Blanton and Jerry may have made another lousy decision but Parnell and Feliciano are the goats tonight.

Re: IGT, 8/6, Mets@Phils

Charlie might actually have been the Manual with the dumbest pitching moves of the night. His just didn't turn out to be as costly.
I mean you've got a 5-run lead and your reliever gives up two dinky hits w/one out to go and you feel the need to get your lefty in because you don't think your righty can handle Chris Freakin' Carter even though the tying run isn't even on deck yet?!?

Now, just in case I'm not miserable enough, I now turn back to watching Papelbon try to blow his game.
God this dope is a chore to watch. One pitch every 30 seconds - and he's only that fast if no one is on base.

Re: IGT, 8/6, Mets@Phils

One thing that caught my eye during the meltdown was that two balls were hit to center on which runners took the extra base. One was the Werth hit that Sweeney went to 3rd on, and the other was the hit that Werth scored on.

Not sure if Pagan holds those runners, or if it would have made any difference in the outcome of the game, but maybe it's time to take a closer look at moving Carlos to one of the corners.

Yeah, he wasn't showing much coverage in the gaps tonight. (Of course, a potential game-saving play was made by Pagan in right, for what it's worth.)

Your comments could have also gone in my "Deference" thread.

Re: IGT, 8/6, Mets@Phils

The problem with that play where Sweeny took 3B was that the OF was deep, essentially in a 'no-doubles' defense. It was still a one-run lead at that point and the idea is to not let Werth get to 2B (of course the 17 straight hits that followed pretty much scuttled those plans but that's a whole 'nother set of problems).
Point being, that the only way Pagan in CF makes that inning or even that play any different is if he's playing in an entirely different spot.

Meanwhile, on the offensive front:

10 groundouts - including 1 GiDP and 3 come-backers to the pitcher
7 Ks
5 infield pop-outs
so that's 23 outs that never left the IF
The remaining 4 outs were in the OF, 2 of which I remember as being hit somewhat hard

Of the 10 hits, 9 were singles, 2 of those were IF singles, several of the rest were either seeing-eye or bloops
