Martino: Mets lack 'F-U attitude'

Tracksuit's "analysis" article in the Snooze this morning opines that the difference between the Mets and the Phils is that the Mets need to exhibit more poor sportsmanship. He actually called it a "F*&% You" attitude.

He seems to be saying that the Mets should have an unshakable confidence in their ability to win.

Pretty tall order for a team that's lost 22 of its last 33 games.

Yeah, it wouldn;t be because they have a better offense or better pitching, or anything, it's CAHNfidence. Thanks, Fran.

I think the 1992-1993 Mets proved that a "F#@%# You" attitude results in wins, baby.

Wait, what?

But the problem I have with guys like Tracksuit writing this stuff is that it seems to imply that just having that attitude is what leads to the Phillies winning.

Yet if the team exhibits this kind of mentality and then doesn't win, the MSM will be out there complaining about the loud-mouth Mets who talk a good game but don't back it up. The media was not kind to the Mets in 2007 when they perceived the team to be too showboat-ish.

I can see how confidence and attitude can help you win, but not nearly as much as winning can affect your confidence and attitude.

More than anything else, this reads more like it was written by somebody who wants to be covering a more colorful team.

Like the confidence and attitude the Mets had in 2007.

I do think the Mets may be, slightly, affected by a little doubt and pressure. Certainly seemed like it Wednesday.

But they did seem a confident team with attitude in March/April. I remember beat writers loving it.

Pro wrestlers give growling interviews about ripping the heads off their rivals. Palin talks about the affront of putting mosques in neighborhoods that she's visited once or twice. Ahmedinijad blames toilet clogs on Jewish conspiracy. It's part of the job.

80% of Martino's audience laps this feelbaddery shit up. He may or may not buy what he's selling; simply, though, it behooves him to write this. (Not to mention that he finished cutting his teeth in Philly, where 90-95% of the the audience-- including an uncomfortable number of educated friends of mine-- seems to lap this shit up wit' Whiz/onions.)

Holy crap, Jenrry. If I had a child, I'd worry that he was planning to eat him/her.

Wait, I do have a child. STAY AWAY FROM LWYP, JENRRY!

Re: Martino: Mets lack 'F-U attitude'

Why am I betting that Martino was the first sportswriter to get mad at Reyes for celebrating too much in the dugout, or whatever it was that we were supposed to be mad at him for?
