Memories of Alex Cora

Great diving catch as an emergency first baseman in the 20-inning game.

The cult of Alex Cora as team leader, exemplified here by Ben Shpigel.

That he did a Fox in-game interview during the Subway Series and later delivered a pinch-hit RBI so McCarver and Buck could revel in his leaderness.

Generally forgetting he was on the roster.

Why the love affair with him from the media? , it was like the worse he hit or played the more he was talked up as a leader.

Pretty good start last year.

Changed uni number to 13 from 3 after Wagner left.

July 2, Mets @ Washington--bases loaded triple. Sparked the team to a win (Tejada picked off a runner at 2B to end it).

Remember when he sucked for a year and a half?

Re: Memories of Alex Cora

He and Reyes getting hurt on consecutive nights absolutely murdered the Mets last year. Continuing to play him was a new nail in the coffin each game.

I'm guaranteed to conflate him with Chris Woodward in the years coming. I already have a few times.

I can't find it, but I remember a great internet essay by a Sox fan, written after Cora signed with the Mets, about how cool it was to watch Cora take infield practice.

I'll always appreciate him for not being Argenis Reyes or Wilson Valdes.

Playing with two broken thumbs was kinda nice of him, sorta.

I remember when they signed him, and wondering if he would be as weird looking as his brither.
And the relief when I saw that he wasn't.

It's safe again for the other Mets to joke around in the locker room. What I remember mostly about Alex Cora is how much he sucked. And if he's supposed to be such a great manager, how come no one ever asked him to manage a team?

Oh. And good riddance. Don't forget to take your vest on the way out.

Being an extremely game, extremely knowledgeable failure at his job. Also, that one time he freed Harry Potter from the Malfoys' basement comes to mind.

Right, because active players tend to get asked to manage a lot these days.

Just go ahead and be a literalist and ruin my sarcastic joke. Be that way. I don't care.

I'll always remember his taking-the-high-road brand of clubhouse leadership.

His brand of clubhouse leadership led the Mets all the way to one game under .500.

The Future of the Mets Is Hazy and Expensive
Reading the tea leaves and coming up with nothing
By JOSH ALPER

Alex Cora, freshly released by the Mets, went on the radio Monday and slammed the team for being dishonest with their fans. He said that they should just come clean and let everyone know that they are rebuilding with hopes of contending again in 2013 or 2014.

For a guy who loses his cool when he hears people laughing, Cora certainly has a good sense of humor. The implication that getting rid of Cora somehow means that a team is less interested in winning now is funnier than the last few Will Ferrell movies.

Cora cares about us fans. This wasn't a cheap shot by Mr. High Road, perhaps motivated by his recent dumping right before his vest was supposed to vest.

I predict his mere presence and attitude will make them into a winning team ... oh wait!
