IGT - Mets @ former Astros Field - 8/17/10

Ceetar

Reyes-SS,
Martinez-LF,
Wright-3B,
Beltran-CF,
Davis-1B,
Francoeur-RF,
Thole-C,
Tejada-2B,
Santana-LHP

Castillo needs to be in there.

Mets don't win two in a row, win on the road, win series in merely the second game, if at all, so It's probably a safe bet to put your money on the former Colt .45s.

That said, Santana will probably pitch another complete game.

Jerry is doing 2nd base by committee , knows he needs the practice.

Either that or Castillo has somehow become part of the closer committee.

Re: IGT - Mets @ former Astros Field - 8/17/10

The playoffs are no longer a realistic possibility, right?

So there seems absolutely no point to keeping guys like Castillo and Frenchy in the everyday lineup, and guys like FernyMart and Tejada out of it.

Re: IGT - Mets @ former Astros Field - 8/17/10

I think they're certainly a realistic possibility. Certainly more possible than not making the playoffs was down the stretch in 2007.

I hope Jerry has an intelligent explanation for why Frenchy is in and Pagan is out against a righty.

I bet it involves "giving Pagan a blow."

Re: IGT - Mets @ former Astros Field - 8/17/10

Pagan looked to me like he could use a blow. He has been carrying whatever offense the team could muster for weeks now. Frenchy is getting his start, and Fartinez is getting Frenchy's, kinda.

Tejada can't hit, at least not yet and Castillo for all his limits can at least reach base. I don't see why we oughta use him.

They're dozens of cumulative games out of the Wild Card, and something like twenty cumulative games out of the division. I think we have differing opinions on what "realistic" is. (There's a reason why 2007 was so notable.)

Maybe Jerry stole it from Willie, but I hear that in Jerry's voice the way I hear "pitcher of record on the long side" in Gary's.

You mean other than cleaning up Willie's shit and managing the best record in the NL in 2008. And falling one game short because of the crap Jerry inherited from Willie? Life's a game when four out of the first five guys in your lineup play like MVP's and the fifth one is merely an all-star having somewhat of a career year.

And I have seen some very funny ones here.

Hey, this is baseball!
Until the math indicates otherwise, anything is possible. ANYTHING!
Met fans should know this more than any other fan of any other team.

[quote="batmagadanleadoff"]I hope Jerry has an intelligent explanation for why Frenchy is in and Pagan is out against a righty.
I don't think tonight is the night to keep Pagan out. Win game two first.
Castillo either. We need to make stuff happen and win the series.
Field your best team for Santana.
Go out and attack Figueroa!

Maybe his thinking is tomorrow we have Myers, also a RHP, and that this is a four game series.
Bud Norris going Thurs., another righty.

I would not be looking so far ahead. I would want to make sure we win game two tonight.
Rest shmest. Lets start conditioning these players for long hauls.

Very nice.
I'd like nothing more than Jerry looking like he knows what he's doing. I'll gladly eat my words up there if we win 3 out of 4 here in Houston.

Good way to start the game.

Frenchy failed with two men on base in the first. He also swung on at least four pitches that were about a foot out of the strike zone. This is all a part of Jerry's reverse platoon where the manager tries to get the worst out of his ballplayers.

I'd pull him if there was somebody on. But otherwise, Santana's a good enough and smart enough pitcher to keep the ball away from the guy with the bases empty. That one is on Santana. (And I guess Thole, to a small extent.)
