Billy Joel's "The Last Play At Shea"

Newsday just emailed me that I won four tickets to the "Biggest outdoor movie premiere since 1919".

Gotta go to Melville to pick them up.I'm assuming they will be good seats , probably being naive though.

Cool - have fun!

It's not the biggest outdoor premier since 1919, though, as much as they're claiming that it will be. We were at the premier of Pocahontas in Central Park in 1994 or 1995, and that had something like 100,000 people.

Hey - I still think it'll be a lot of fun. I was at the first concert, and it was electric!

I'd have to think no way those tickets could suck.
I mean, they are inside the theater, right?

Gradz and enjoy that premiere.

Theater , what theater? I'm trying to envision where the move will be shown, on the scoreboard?

Yes, it will be shown on both scoreboards. We picked up tickets for the hell of it. Seems like it could be fun.

I would definitely go see this if Billy Joel wasn't in it.

It annoys me that Billy Joel, a lifelong Yankee fan, got to play the last concert at Shea.

This one, however, is pretty well done.

Who's that between Wright (?) and Keith? Is it one of the Village People?

Did Billy Crystal open for him?

Re: Billy Joel's "The Last Play At Shea"

D-Dad and I saw the movie last night. It was terrific.

I get the feeling that Billy Joel isn't much of a baseball fan in general. But he was certainly a part of the 1986 season (even singing the National Anthem at Shea), and I've never observed any anti-Mets sentiment from him.

As for the documentary, if you're going to pre-judge it negatively and decide not to see it, it's your prerogative. But it's also your loss.

This film is a love letter to Shea, and has footage that I've never seen anywhere else. It's worth it just to hear Pete Flynn talk about the Beatles playing Shea, and later hearing about it from Paul McCartney's perspective.

Oh, and seeing G-Fafif's uncredited appearance (as well as his name in the film's credits) was also way cool. Other people who are interviewed in the film include Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, and Keith and Ron but a lot more of Gary.

This was a documentary crafted by people who obviously have a deep love of Shea Stadium. If you claim to love Shea, you can't help but appreciate how it's portrayed in this film.

It's Carlos Beltran, "patrolling" center field. I'd have made a few replacements on some of the letters (they mailed it in on Q and Z, as so many primer writers do), but for the most part, it's excellent, and the artwork is cool.

When's the dvd coming out? You'd think they'd get it out there
for the holidays? Billy is a rung or two below Derek to me on the
annoying New Yorker's ladder, but I'd like to see what all the hub
bub is about and will rent it or buy it when available.

If anyone wants some laughs, google [hate Billy Joel] ... there's
some funny stuff out there.

Re: Billy Joel's "The Last Play At Shea"

I like Billy Joel.

I take comfort that the box cover for the Yankee Stadium VHS is a drawing, indicating that they couldn't find a photo of him wearing that outlandish and tacky garb. That's my story, and I'm sticking with it.

There's another Billy VHS out there, called either "Live from Long Island" or "Live from the Nassau Coliseum," that was shot during the Nylon Curtain tour. I was in attendance!

I bet that we, as a collective group, could write a kick-ass Mets A to Z primer! And Zvon could illustrate and our favorite photog from Milford could shoot the photos!

I really think Fman should do the illustration.
