Man United cruise to a 3-0 win over Newcastle yesterday , I saw the highlights last night and the mbm guy in the Guardian was correct about the Newcastle back line.....comical defending , like they never played together...they played Berbetov onside for his goal when it should have been a routine step up and he's offside...

City and Mancini are idiots....£18 million AND Stephen Ireland for James Milner..... absolutely crazy , since coming to City Mancini has jettisoned some of the young talent that came through the City ranks . Ireland was their player of the year not so long ago....great deal for Villa.

Mancini to get the sack before Xmas.

That second article was really kinda silly and the guy didn't need to tell us he knows fuck all about the game, Blackpool btw have won as much as City have in recent years....

Blackpool
West Brom
Wigan to get demoted.

I don't get the size of his boner over Milner. Just plain desperation...

And given how Wigan looked against the Tangerines last weekend... can't say your relegation list's a bad call. Bellamy sending Cardiff City up to the Premier would be a kick, no?

Honestly , I can't fathom how Bellamy is not with a premier league team , fair play to him for wanting to go to his home town team but he's a very good player. Yeah it would be great if he helped get them in to the prem.

Bellamy is one of those players that fans at other teams love to hate, and frankly other players hate too, he can play though.

Cit-eh sign Mario Balotelli who presumably takes over the role of club malcontent following the departure of Stephen Ireland. (This guy actually makes Stephen Ireland appear like a choirboy.)
I wonder what odds Paddy Power are offering for him being photographed dancing on a bar table in Stockport wearing a Man U jersey?

I"m watching the EPL show on FSC. United cruised to a win over a terrible West Ham team, Scholes was spraying the ball all over the field, Berbetov was excellent and was rewarded with a wonderfully taken volley. Nani scored a peach too.

Liverpool look awful, seriously, how many great players to they have , it's a team full of mediocre talent and now Hodgson is going back to Fulham to bring back some of his old players. Kyut is a real gamer but when he's your best player most weeks you're screwed.

Man City were all over Sunderland and Tevez missed a sitter in the early going. Bent stole a penalty at the death and then scored the spot kick for the win, the celebrations at the end confirmed how teams now really want to beat City. The talent on the bench perhaps also shows how much dissatisfaction is among the squad.

Wigan with a hugh win at Spurs, again, another team with big aspirations finding the early going tough. Remarkably Keane looks likely to move again, Newcastle would be a great landing spot for him.

The last bit explains the first point, I think; they almost make Chelsea look sympathetic. They'd have massive problems even if Mancini weren't a terrible manager of men.

Crazy stuff. Saw most of this game, which saw quite a few manufactured Tottenham chances, but less finishing than at an anorexics' banquet. Wigan was playing rugby on the 50-50s, and it paid off.

Well done, Young Gun.

TEEN soccer ace Jack Wilshere was kicked out of a club for "pestering" a group of women before the alleged street brawl which saw him nicked.

Bouncers ejected the Arsenal star, 18, who is on bail over the later bust-up in which 21-year-old Kim Plested's arm was broken. It followed complaints "juvenile and rude" England under-21 star Wilshere jokingly tried to take pictures up women's SKIRTS with his mobile.

Josefin Rosen, 20, who was with 30 women at a 23rd birthday bash, said: "Jack was trying to grab at me and my friend when we were dancing. "He was drinking but wasn't that drunk." Josefin's party and Wilshere and pals were in the VIP area at Amika in London's Kensington. She added: "Jack kept laughing and trying to take pictures up our skirts. He made me feel really uncomfortable. If I was his mother I'd be ashamed of him."

Clubber Sonja Kruger, 32, said: "Jack kept trying to grab at Josefin."

An Amika spokesman confirmed the incidents and said: "We put up a barrier and provided security between the girls and Jack Wilshere's party. They were asked to leave."

That was freaking amazing...I was catching some of it on Justin TV( a pain in the ass most of the time).....Everton V Man U is nearly always a great game......it had the added spice of Wayne Riooney going back to his first club, made his debut with them at 16 IIRC.....left for Man U and the fans there hate him...of course this past week has featured Wayne in the tabloids cos he was bedding hookers while his missus was preggers....Lord Ferg dropped him for the game today......

Holland/Man City midfielder/Jeet Kun Do brown belt Nigel De Jong, breaking hearts and... well... other things.

No yellow, no FA punishment. But Holland's coach is a voice of reason:

I've seen the pictures back. It was a wild and unnecessary offence. He went in much too hard. It is unfortunate, especially since he does not need to do it.

The funny thing is that the referee did not even show a yellow card for it. Apparently, there are other standards. But I have a problem with the way Nigel needlessly looks to push the limit. I am going to speak to him.

He'll be sitting out the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Liverpudlians want new team ownership?

Well, now, this is interesting.

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton said the Red Sox owners have offered to pay $477 million, which likely will cover the debts and bank charges stemming from the leveraged 2007 takeover by Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., but no more.

Despite the opposition of Hicks and Gillett, who own all of the shares in Liverpool, Boston's offer was accepted by the three non-owner board members: Broughton -- who was hired by Hicks and Gillett in April to sell the club -- plus managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre.

The Premier League said in a statement it should be ready to approve the takeover by Friday.

This is very interesting all right, I do wonder what Henry's motives are, obviously making money is one and with his own TV station over here he's surely thinking long term. The days of going to the pub to watch the EPL are long gone, espn now carries it nation wide.

If the sale goes through Hicks and Gillett stand to lose over $100 million of their own money......great.....remember when Henry bought the Sox it was all rather coplicated too as will this, he's going to clear the club of debt?, very sceptical of that....the guys rich but not Sheik Mansoor rich.... over here you can trade players and obviously get free agents..in soccer trades are rare and it's all about selling the players then giving him the fat contract....$20 million buys you a decent one, plus the agents in world soccer make Boras seem like an angel.

Plans for a new stadium have nevr left the drawing board, likely to stay there too.

Interesting to see how this shakes out....

Great quotes here
Assou like it: Wise words

AFTER READING his comments last week, it’s very hard not to love Cameroon and Spurs defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

“The whole problem with football players is they really take themselves seriously,” he said. “We kick a ball around and we earn 100,000, 200,000 or even 300,000 euros a week. We don’t improve the world. It’s not like we invented hot water.”

There’s more.

“I could understand that you wear dark glasses at night time when you do open-heart surgery and save lives, but not if you’re a footballer.

“These people didn’t feed me, they didn’t bring me into the world and my life won’t improve by going to a nightclub and drinking loads of champagne.”

Benoit Assou-Ekotto, legend.

It's too bad they've got Newcastle up next; they could have scheduled a loss-doubleheader with Hartlepool and Brighton.

Oh, yeah. And it sure seems so.

For weeks, the nominal excuse has been "It's Terry. Also, Essien."

Both were back, and presumably in form, last weekend. That lapse-- while not as ridiculous as the Sunderland ones-- was but momentary, but pretty damn ugly. On a set play? Come on.

Re: English Premier League in-season thread, 2K10-2K11

PUNDIT OF THE WEEK

Kenny Sansom (as heard by Football 365)

“I don’t give a monkey’s about statistics. I reckon whenever a team has a greater percentage of possession, about 70 per cent of the time they don’t win.”

WORD OF MOUTH II

“Nothing’s black or white in our country – you’re either brilliant or you’re hopeless.”

– Alan Shearer. Genius.

“I don’t want the French in Europe. Marseille are a very strong team – animals, physically speaking. And we all know about Lyon.”

– Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola sounds somewhat eager to avoid a French side in the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League.

“We were told that with the wind chill the temperature got down to -27. To play football in those conditions and on that pitch you needed to be Father Christmas.”

– Felipe Melo on a rather chilly trip to Poland for Juventus, their draw with Lech Poznan putting them out of the Europa League.

“One mate was coming over from America and it was going to be his first game of football, or soccer as they call it. Unfortunately we had to take him to Wigan instead.”

– Blackpool manager Ian Holloway, possibly meaning no offence to Wigan, after the game against Manchester United was postponed.

“In football you need to have everything in your cake mix to make the cake taste right. One little bit of ingredient that Tony (Pulis) uses in his cake is Rory Delap’s throw. Call that cinnamon and he’s got a cinnamon flavoured cake.”

– Holloway again on Stoke’s recipe for success. Mind you, Blackpool had their cake and ate it at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Terrible and hilarious, considering how Transfer Deadline Day worked out.

LIVERPOOL fan Shaun McCormack got himself a new name for Christmas - and is now called Fernando Torres.
The dad of four, 36, changed his name by deed poll to match that of his Spanish football hero.

The internet trader said: "It's a dream come true. I know he isn't having the greatest of seasons but, for me, he's the best striker on the planet.

"I did think about changing my name to Steven Gerrard, but I wanted something a little more flamboyant."

Shaun, from Scunthorpe, Lincs, is now putting his new moniker on his birth certificate and registering it with his bank.

He said his wife Clare and kids found it hilarious, adding: "The only person who hasn't seen the funny side is my mother-in-law. It was worth doing just to see her reaction."

Oh, I bet she's laughing now.

Amazed to hear today's game was Kenny Dalglish's first game in charge of Liverpool in Europe. Too bad his coaching is caught in an 80’s time warp – Liverpool are playing the fugliest, most one-dimensional football I’ve seen in ages. Hoorah for the glory days, Kopites!

playing teams like this of course is at times a pain, you're supposed to hammer them but it's the FA Cup so anything can happen, Crawley hit the woodwork in stoppage time , United are though and no one remembers these games anyway , Crawley get a nice payday so they are happy.

Not sure if they are in the same side of the draw but a United Everton final would be sweet , a lot of history for them in the cup.

Re: English Premier League in-season thread, 2K10-2K11

I doubt any of you look at the Championship table (although there’s a pretty good chance Bucket will next year). This year’s race is shaping up to be quite interesting because of the closeness and teams involved. Thought I’d give a quick round-up, KTE-style (In case you didn’t know, the first two go up automatically and next 4 playoff for the 3rd promotion spot.)

1. Queens Park Rangers61 pts – Another West London club owned by a rich tycoon, how quaint. The only reason you want them up is the potential of a decent rivalry with Chelsea. Or if you like unique jerseys, as theirs is among the most distinctive in the UK; navy and white hoops.

2. Nottingham Forest - 56 pts+1 game in hand – Thirty years ago they were the best club side in the world. They haven’t been in the top-flight for almost 20. Sentimental favorites for many fans. There’s almost a Bohemian air about Forest -- their club anthem is based on Dance of the Knights, their jersey after a bunch of Italian revolutionaries and in the 70’s/80’s when every English team was playing “hoof ball” they played the prettiest football in world.

3. Swansea City- 56 pts – Were the last non-English team in England’s top-tier of football. They’re noted for climbing from the 4th to the 1st tier in successive seasons and falling away almost as quickly. Football in Wales is rugby’s poor cousin, but a Welsh EPL team may go a long way to loosen its stronghold.

4. Cardiff City55 pts - The Bluebirds have threatened promotion for that last couple of years and also lost the FA Cup Final two years ago. I think It’d be awesome if they win promotion along with Swansea, however because the EPL is run by a bunch of craggy-faced dinosaurs, neither will be eligible for European competitions should they qualify.

5. Norwich City55 pts - were EPL regulars for most of the 90’s Apart from the fact they play in A’s colors and are “correctly” pronounced “NORR-ij” City, I can’t think of anything else to write about them, except “boring East Anglia team”.

6. Leeds United - 53 pts - The Second Spitter received his first and only beating at a football ground at Leeds. However, the hate is ameliorated by the fact they play their arses off against ManUre (a rivalry that can be traced to the War of the Roses). Rebuilding after financial mismanagement saw them fall from the EPL to the 3rd tier in 4 seasons. Arguably the biggest club outside the EPL, but don’t get me wrong, there are very few things likeable about Leeds Utd.

Would love to see Leeds back as a long with Liverpool they are the team I loath , I remember when the EPL was formed and Norwich were top of the table , they played some good football under Mike Walker back then.

No mention if the Arseholes draw with Leyton Orient? , a sensational equalizing goal from Tehoue sees the Orient go back to the Emirates for a replay , they will relish it as no one is scared of playing there.

A good result! An away draw, swings the tie in our favour. Certainly no worse than Burton Albion or Exeter City?

Have to say, the FA Cup has lost its mysticism for me. It was probably around the time they scrapped unlimited replays. If they scrap replays altogether, I'll probably stop caring.

Quarter-Final Draw:
Stoke City v West Ham United or Burnley
Manchester City or Aston Villa v Everton or Reading
Birmingham City v Bolton Wanderers
Manchester United v Leyton Orient or Arsenal

Nah, Jack's a laugh, especially when he's tweeting from other player's accounts

What is perhaps funnier, there's a website that collates all the arsenal player's tweets -- amidst all the apologies from players about Sunday's loss, and apparently oblivious to the fact his team was in a Cup Final, you can find the trials and tribulations of young Henri Lansbury, our highly-rated prospect striker -- from his tweets it sounds like he's banging six different chicks.

Luiz probably should've been run after the Rooney non-call. (But then, Rooney probably shouldn't have been playing, eh?) The ref did seem to switch into rah-home-team/keep-the-stars-on-the-pitch mode for most of the second half. I'm kinda shocked that they booked Vidic that second time (especially after passing on booking him after the Drogba shove).

Also, I heart our Brazilians.

But United fans still singing that pedophile song. That's just so classy.

yeah I know , it's just not going away that song....decent game today in the CL......if United have never found replacement for Roy Keane , and they haven't then it's fair to say that Arsenal have never replaced or needed Keane's old sparring partner Vierra more, they need that bite don't they?

That was Giants Stadium. The NASL was on the wane, even the Cosmos, but Roberto Cabañas had replaced Chinaglia as primary striker for the Cosmos and he and JC Romero were giving them a Latin American air to succeed the EuroCosmos of Chinagia, Beckenbauer, and Bogi?evi?.

Like Pelé, he had a great arial game. He almost seemed to prefer to take his shots out of the air.

The Steelers seem the better analog-- the team's okay, but most of the fans seem to have no actual tie to the club/region, and some of those are really cruising for a bruising.

Still, gun to head-- whether we're talking rooting interests, likability, style of play, or overall footy prowess-- I'll take Barca 10 times out of 10 over the f*cking Madrillenos (that was 9/10 before Crissy Ronaldo joined up).

Apart from all that "Cesc has Barcelona DNA" bollocks, I could conceivably get behind a team like Barca. They're our daddy, and sometimes you have to acknowledge that.

I could never, ever support anything associated with Manchester United. Apart from maybe Giggs, I have zero respect for that organization -- they are contemptible every way the Yankees are, arguably worse. As for their supporters, I present to you the following:

Now imagine 80,000 scumbags singing that song every year over a period of 15 years.

You may wonder, what kind of organzation condones the singing of a song promoting the idea that a particular man who is not a pedophile, to be a pedophile?

Answer: The same organziation that infested the EPL with the likes of Kung-Fu Eric, a borderline psychopath from Cork, and has Demento, Supreme Ruler of All-Cunts as its head coach.

To paraphraze the immortal words of Kevin Keegan: I would looooove it if Chelsea beat them. Loooooooove it.

Re: English Premier League in-season thread, 2K10-2K11

From an old, old website that no longer exists

GREATEST FOOTBALLING MOMENTS - #10 - KEEGAN LASHES OUT

The Premiership run-in of 1995-96 was one of the most tense, tight,
nerve-wracking and exciting of all. Manchester United, going for their third
title in four seasons, were pitted against the might of Kevin Keegan's
revitalised Newcastle United. Scum fans wanted United to win, obviously;
Newcastle fans were desperate for their side to lift the Championship for
the first time since 1927, back in the days of baggy shorts, black and white
film and Malcolm MacDonald. With both teams neck and neck, and with the
Magpies having hilariously thrown away a twelve-point lead at the top,
tension mounted with each game that was played. But it wasn't just a battle
on the field of play; both managers were keen to gain psychological
advantage by out-smarting each other in a vicious war of words.
Keegan, a devout Roman Catholic teetotaller, used calm rhetoric and
well-chosen words to fire up his squad and undermine the opposition. Alex
Ferguson of Manchester United, a devout protestant wanker and drunken twat,
used slurred bollocks and incomprehensible nonsense to try and do the same.
Keegan, who had sold Andy Cole to The Scum the year before and brought in
Columbian failure Faustino Sasparilla, wanted the title more than anything.
Ferguson just wanted to get to the bar before they closed.
Sky Sports did all they could to remain impartial as they urged the nation
the get behind Keegan's Newcastle. They even resorted to dragging out some
old fossil of a pensioner and paid for him to be at every match, as a way of
cajoling the viewers and adding tension to the proceedings. "There he is,"
went bear-arsed hairy freak Richard Keys. "Good old Sammy Charlton, as he
walks to his seat in the stand. He was there the last time Newcastle won the
title in 1927. Back then he was just a lad of 15, and he still remembers it
to this day. How great it would be to have him here to see his side claim
the title after all these years. But we're not biased or anything, you
understand. Honest."
Indeed not.
Sammy Charlton, at 108, was said to be Newcastle United's oldest surviving
fan and, as with lots of Newcastle supporters, hadn't seen a game since
about 1948. But this didn't stop him going to every game of that momentous
run-in, mainly because Sky had paid for his tickets. "It was great," he
said, "going to see the laaaaads again after aaaaall them years, bonnie lad.
They looked so much smaller on the pitch than I remembered, and they was in
colour an' aaaaalll, yer knaaa. Howay the lads and all that shite. I've just
pissed meself, man."
Sadly, like generations of Magpies supporters, Sammy Charlton died before he
could see his beloved Newcastle United win the League, or any other trophy
for that matter. And there'll be a lot more, too.
But more than anything else - more than Newcastle's pathetic form, more than
Faustino Sasparilla's ludicrous displays of selfishness, more than Sky
shifting games about to make it all more exciting - the run-in of 1995-96
will be remembered for Kevin Keegan's unexpected and, frankly, stupid
outburst on live television. In a post-match interview, with microphone in
hand and daft headphones ruining his curly perm, Keegan unleashed a
vitriolic attack upon Manchester United and, in particular, the mind games
being played by their manager, Alex Ferguson.
"There's a lot of things been said," he fumed, "about this club and about
the run-in, and whether or not we're up to it. But I can tell you that we
are up to it. We will fight them on the beaches, in the
skies...er...somewhere else. We're not finished yet, and if that drunken
bastard thinks we are, then I've got news for him. I love my wife and I love
my kids, and I love horse-riding and Chinese food as well, but nothing will
give me greater pleasure than beating them. I will love it, LOVE IT, if we
beat them. Love it. Absolutely love it. Love it. Do you hear me? Love it.
Love it."
Back in the Sky studio, Richard Keys and fellow smart-arsed Sky lip-service
payer Andy Gray were astonished at Keegan's ferocious outburst...
"Love it! Love it!"
...as they tried to calm him down. "It was amazing," says Keys, platting his
arm hairs. "I've never seen anything like it. We kept the cameras rolling
because here was something special - a manager losing it live on national
telly. Well, on Sky anyway, which is much better than national telly, and
I'm not just saying that."
People were surprised that Keegan, a normally calm, serene and clean-mouthed
individual, could be coming out with such things about a rival team and
fellow manager, even if it was The Scum and Alex Ferguson...
"Love it! Love if we beat...!"
...with some saying that perhaps the tension had got to him, that he
couldn't take the fact that he had thrown away a twelve-point lead at the
top of the table. Alex Ferguson, who had been watching the incident from
behind a wall and taunting Keegan by pulling his tongue out and making funny
faces (an easy task for him), was immediately asked for his opinions. "What
time is it?" he said, trying to focus on his watch. "Are they open yet?
Er...obviously Kevin has lost it. He can't take it like I can. Perhaps if he
spent a bit more time drinking and not going to church, perming his hair and
such, he might make a better football manager. Like me."
The last laugh was with Ferguson and Manchester United, as they took the
title and also the FA Cup in a hilarious farce of a match against great
rivals Liverpool. Keegan had indeed blown it, as indeed indeed had Newcastle
United. They would have to wait another year to have a crack at that title
that had eluded them for over fifty years. As for Sammy Charlton, their
oldest surviving fan, he went to Sky the following year to see if he could
have some more tickets, but they told him to fuck off because they weren't
interested any more, and anyway Newcastle were crap now. So off they went to
find an ancient Liverpool, Arsenal or Blackburn supporter.
Tension is a big thing in the lives of football managers. It can ruin them
and it can send them off for heart surgery before they snuff it. It can make
them crawl the kerbs of North London for prostitutes, or it can make them
shag their coach's wives or go out and rape underage girls. Like Graham Rix.
Some managers can take it, because they are in such a constant state of
intoxication with strong alcohol that nothing matters to them any more. And
it can turn a seasoned professional like Kevin Keegan into an unforgettable
fugure of ridicule.

If john Terry were Irish he'd be considered worse than Richard Dunne, but he is the England captain so he's brilliant.

Lord Ferguson exploited an old Chelsea team and used Valencia and Park to perfection, run at them and that's what they did.

You can call United what you want but I was a fan back when they won nothing and the Scouse scum won everything every year, permit me a big fuck you to the Scouse scum on the upcoming #19.
