Post Your Bingos Here

Edgy DC

Just two in my recently completed game with Willets.

From me:
BRISTLE
If you look hard enough, you see about nine possible bingos in that rack.

From him:
LIKABLE

Mine went for 75, his for 70, but he ended up taking me by six points --- something like the difference between swapping tiles out of a bad rack and playing them on the board.

Re: Post Your Bingos Here

A "bingo" is a Scrabble term, Coobs, for a turn in which the player uses all seven tiles in their hand (and earns a 50 point scoring bonus as a result).

Old joke:

A man is struck by a bus on a busy street in New York City.He lies dying on the sidewalk as a crowd of spectators gathers around."A priest. Somebody get me a priest!" the man gasps.A policeman checks the crowd----no priest, no minister, no man of God of any kind."A PRIEST, PLEASE!" the dying man says again. Then out of the crowd steps a little old Jewish man of at least eighty years of age."Mr. Policeman," says the man, "I'm not a priest. I'm not even a Catholic. But for fifty years now I'm living behind St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church on First Avenue, and every night I'm listening to the Catholic litany. Maybe I can be of some comfort to this man."The policeman agreed and brought the octogenarian over to where the dying man lay.He kneels down, leans over the injured and says in a solemn voice: "B-4. I-19. N-38. G-54. O-72. . ."

There's no way I'd be confidently able to spell ARPEGGIO without looking it up; how many Rs?, how many Ps?, how many Gs?. Not to mention the long odds against me seeing it even if I did know.

Nor would I have known that FINAGLE is also spelled FENAGLE -- the SCRABBLE dictionary allows the variation although my Spellcheck is questioning it as I type

And I probably would have gone to my grave never knowing that ALIPEDS is an actual word: n. an animal with a membrane connecting the toes

Re: Post Your Bingos Here

i was sitting on the couch in the living room playing with the scrabble ipod app while minimm was playing on the floor. i had just activated the app when the little guy noticed something a) that i wasn't paying enough attention to him, b) that something was shiny c) and glowing, and d) it looked like i was having fun with it. so he walked on over and grabbed for it. in the ensuing wrestling match, onscreen buttons may have been pushed in the appropriate sequence to skip a turn. or in the process of shoving it into my back pocket, i may not have locked the screen, leading to an improbable butt-skip.

a half hour later, i start up the game through facebook, and its still my turn, with the same rack, but edgy's score is higher. i figured it out from there. i still had the chance to win the game, but was a little flustered and missed the many many openings that would've allowed me to drop in my last three tiles for the win. instead, i left one on my rack, and edgy took the comeback win.

FOILERS was the first word I saw but, based on the theory that I have absolutely no ability to predict legal vs illegal words, I looked it up and it's nowhere to be found in the SCRABBLE dictionary. Also consulted the word-check in an on-line game and got the same answer.

OFFLINE is valid - as is ONSIDE although not ONSIDES

metsmarathon was dazzled by my GLITZES.

FMan didn't crumble away when I opened with ERODENT but CRASHER put an end to his party.

With A Boy Named Seo's reputation as a lady's man, it's surprising that I OUTLAID him.

The tiles on my rack against Lunchbucket were definitely not TRADABLE. Then I CANNONED him out of the water.

Surprisingly, Edgy played a bingo against me in my other current game, but I still hold a strong lead against him regardless.
