Good news for MGIM (from WFAN):

G-Fafif Aug 25 2010 03:59 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Awaiting word on whether White Sox will come to Citi Field. Fourteen seasons of Interleague play and there's never been CHW @ NYM. Obviously they're scared of us.
Ceetar Aug 25 2010 04:13 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
We've also never been to Minnesota right? We'll only get two of the Royals, Twins and Sox at Citi if we're sticking to the Central theme. so a 67% chance or so of seeing them.

Mets played at Metrodome in 2004. Looked damn awful doing it, too. Played at New Comiskey in '02. All AL stops have been made. C'mon White Sox...chickens!

You're right. the Mets haven't _won_ In Minnesota. my mistake. bring on the Sox. Wait, I misread that.. It doesn't have to be Central, Texas is west.. Could be the A's or something.

Does anyone know when the spring training schedules are released? The Fman family is looking at a March 2011 sojourn to Port St Lucie for Fboy's birthday, among other destinations...

I've been wondering about the Spring Training schedule myself, as I have a free Jet Blue flight that expires if i don't book before 9/17 and Spring Training seemed like a fair plan to book it for.

The Marlon Anderson game. And IIRC, didn't LoDuca get tossed from one of the Oakland games at Shea for arguing with an ump?

Gwreck Sep 14 2010 06:27 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
A very disappointing schedule. I really dislike repeating interleague opponents from year to year. We had Baltimore in 09-10; Twins in 09-10; and now Tigers in 10-11. A little more rotation would be nice.
seawolf17 Sep 14 2010 06:36 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Be wary of away games; we got hosed a few years ago when we planned to see Mets-O's in Fort Lauderdale. Something happened and they switched opponents two weeks before the game; rather than go see Twins-O's, we sold our tix.
seawolf17 Sep 14 2010 06:36 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |

Good thing we'll have already clinched the division by then.

Allows a team to end the first half and start the second with the same pitcher, though almost nobody ever does.

Ceetar Sep 15 2010 05:44 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |

Friday start possibly in San Juan? hmm...4 day weekend in Puerto Rico anyone? July 4th weekend is the Yankees series at Citi Field. That may be interesting. And yeah, I hate the four day all star breaks. It's like leaving for vacation a day later than the rest of your family. They're all out there having fun, and you're just sitting there, doing nothing waiting for your chance.

And get to see in person a Met season reverse itself. Grimmy, how was the weather down there when you went this year?
Benjamin Grimm Sep 15 2010 07:44 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
The humidity was unbelievable. Take a ten-minute walk and you're drenched with sweat. But I was there in late June. I've been there on previous trips in early May, and it was much more pleasant.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 15 2010 07:57 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Detroit on June 28, 29 and 30, with the last a Thursday day game! Come on over and have some fun!
bmfc1 Sep 16 2010 11:48 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Every Thursday home game but two is a day game. 9 weekday starts at either 12 or 1.

I have an internet friend (Not you, unless you've been running a really intricate joke on me for years) in Michigan and I've been contemplating this as an excuse to visit. mid-week makes it tougher as I'm already taking a trip to Spring Training and debating a Boston visit. STILL no work on a lot of official Mets dates/times. pitchers and catchers, Opening Day start time (and location?).
batmagadanleadoff Jan 05 2011 10:23 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |

I'd like to do a road trip to Pittsburgh. What's the deal with those famous Primanti's sandwiches? I'd guess that an order of large fries packed into a sandwich is gimmicky schlock, but they're so popular.
G-Fafif Jan 05 2011 10:29 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Cole slaw also packed in there. The mythology as I understand it is Primanti's customers included truckers who needed to eat with one hand while driving. Or maybe it's that Pirates fans always want to keep one hand free to dial for World Series tickets, 'cause they're an optimistic, multitasking bunch.
Fman99 Jan 05 2011 10:32 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Fboy and I might also be able to sojourn out to Pittsburgh that weekend.
batmagadanleadoff Jan 05 2011 10:32 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Well then why stop at fries and slaw? Why doesn't Primanti's dip the entire sandwich in a tub of coca-cola to top it off?

Frayed Knot Jan 13 2011 08:22 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Nothing like taking a game out of the sunshine on the 1st of May in the northeast and, instead, making it run until nearly midnight.
Gwreck Jan 13 2011 10:02 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Now, if only television viewers would just want to leave behind the sunshine of a May afternoon for their television sets as well...
bmfc1 Jan 13 2011 11:22 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
The July 10 game being at 8 PM means a shorter All Star break (assuming that they're returning to the east coast) for the 15 Mets not named to the All Star Game. For the 10 Mets that will be on the team, plus Terry Collins named as a coach because of the Mets fantastic first half, being in SF means a comparatively shorter flight to the game in Arizona.
G-Fafif Jan 13 2011 11:52 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
It's a travesty how many deserving Mets Bruce Bochy is leaving off the N.L. team. How can he overlook Ollie's league-leading 38 holds?
Gwreck Jan 13 2011 11:57 AM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
I was surprised to see the Mets draw that Sunday night game prior to the all-star break again. The basic agreement with the players' union prohibits a team from playing in that particular slot more than once for the period 2007-2011, "except as shall be necessary to fulfill existing contractual or promotional commitments to ESPN."
G-Fafif Jan 13 2011 12:56 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Opening Night in Miami has been penciled in for 7:10. Two previous openers the Mets played there were late-afternoon daytime affairs. I'm assuming the date (4/1) being a Friday has something to do with the scheduling...as might the host being the Marlins, who take the fun out of everything.
Ceetar Jan 13 2011 12:59 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
Stupid fish. the season also ends on a weekday day game. I'm thrilled for the no day off after Opening Day though. that's always the worst day of the year. I might even ahve an Opening Day party.
G-Fafif Jan 13 2011 01:09 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jan 13 2011 01:17 PM |
First time I can remember the Mets not "protecting" the Home Opener either with an off day. I assume that has something to do with it being a Friday, not that it can't rain on April 8.
Ceetar Jan 13 2011 01:15 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
yeah, probably easier to schedule a double header on Saturday. or really, no one goes to the games down there so they could just give everyone tickets to Saturday.
G-Fafif Jan 13 2011 01:18 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
As "ETA" noted above, Friday openers in the (distant) past were not weather-protected. Plus, it's the Nationals. They come back every other week, more or less, for six months.
Ceetar Jan 13 2011 01:36 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
bah, I misread Home Opener as opener.
Gwreck Jan 13 2011 04:27 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |
The "protection" for the home opener is why the next day's game (Saturday) is a night start (discussed elsewhere in another thread).
G-Fafif Jan 13 2011 05:02 PM Re: Mets Schedule 2011 |

That's putting two and two together -- but unfortunate nonetheless.
