Good news for MGIM (from WFAN):

Travel plans for next year, Mets road interleague will be Texas and Detroit. Sorry, no Minnesota as we originally thought.

Awaiting word on whether White Sox will come to Citi Field. Fourteen seasons of Interleague play and there's never been CHW @ NYM. Obviously they're scared of us.

We've also never been to Minnesota right?

We'll only get two of the Royals, Twins and Sox at Citi if we're sticking to the Central theme. so a 67% chance or so of seeing them.

Mets played at Metrodome in 2004. Looked damn awful doing it, too. Played at New Comiskey in '02. All AL stops have been made.

C'mon White Sox...chickens!

You're right. the Mets haven't _won_ In Minnesota. my mistake.

bring on the Sox.

Wait, I misread that.. It doesn't have to be Central, Texas is west.. Could be the A's or something.

I've been wondering about the Spring Training schedule myself, as I have a free Jet Blue flight that expires if i don't book before 9/17 and Spring Training seemed like a fair plan to book it for.

If you're not picky, the Mets really don't play 'away' from home for more than a game, or two at a time. And chances are they're pretty close to home anyway if you wanted to gamble and book a couple of days in the area if you werne't too picky about which specific day you went to the park.

Re: Mets Schedule 2011

The 2011 @MLB Regular Season Schedule will be officially released tomorrow 9/15 at 10:00am ET

From Adam Rubin:

The Mets' interleague schedule will have an American League West flair next season.

In addition to the customary home-and-home series with the Yankees, the Mets are due to play at Texas and at Detroit in 2011 and will play host to the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics. While the schedule has yet to be officially released, the Mets will open the season on the road against the Florida Marlins, according to a source with knowledge of the schedule.

The Mets have played at Texas one other time -- in 2003, during a series in which Steve Phillips was fired as GM and Jose Reyes was promoted a day before his 20th birthday. The Mets last played at Detroit in 2007. That series included the Tigers winning the rubber game, 15-7, after pounding Tom Glavine for nine runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Angels last visited Flushing in 2005. The Athletics last visited in 2007.

And IIRC, didn't LoDuca get tossed from one of the Oakland games at Shea for arguing with an ump?

A very disappointing schedule. I really dislike repeating interleague opponents from year to year. We had Baltimore in 09-10; Twins in 09-10; and now Tigers in 10-11. A little more rotation would be nice.

All 3 visits to Washington are on the weekend.

Finishing September with at ATL, at STL, vs. PHI and vs. CIN is a pretty tough schedule.

Be wary of away games; we got hosed a few years ago when we planned to see Mets-O's in Fort Lauderdale. Something happened and they switched opponents two weeks before the game; rather than go see Twins-O's, we sold our tix.

Most interesting thing is the Friday start to the season and a mid-week finish.
They talked about changing this for a few years now in order to revamp the post-season sked with a new start date.

Good news:
- NOT off on any of the major holidays like it seems we've been far too often in recent years.
Host Pitt on Mem Day; at LAD July 4th (probably a night game knowing those SoCal sked tendencies); at Florida (or maybe Puerto Rico?) on Labor Day

Not Good News:
- FOUR day break for the ASG. Hate those Thursday off days.

Friday start possibly in San Juan? hmm...4 day weekend in Puerto Rico anyone?

July 4th weekend is the Yankees series at Citi Field. That may be interesting.

And yeah, I hate the four day all star breaks. It's like leaving for vacation a day later than the rest of your family. They're all out there having fun, and you're just sitting there, doing nothing waiting for your chance.

I've been to Puerto Rico three times, always in May and June. While heat and humidity is less in May, it seems there's always a threat of rain.

The July 10 game being at 8 PM means a shorter All Star break (assuming that they're returning to the east coast) for the 15 Mets not named to the All Star Game. For the 10 Mets that will be on the team, plus Terry Collins named as a coach because of the Mets fantastic first half, being in SF means a comparatively shorter flight to the game in Arizona.

Re: Mets Schedule 2011

I was surprised to see the Mets draw that Sunday night game prior to the all-star break again. The basic agreement with the players' union prohibits a team from playing in that particular slot more than once for the period 2007-2011, "except as shall be necessary to fulfill existing contractual or promotional commitments to ESPN."

Note that they were last playing this game in 2008, when travel time to the All-Star game was minimal.

Opening Night in Miami has been penciled in for 7:10. Two previous openers the Mets played there were late-afternoon daytime affairs. I'm assuming the date (4/1) being a Friday has something to do with the scheduling...as might the host being the Marlins, who take the fun out of everything.

Re: Mets Schedule 2011

Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jan 13 2011 01:17 PM

First time I can remember the Mets not "protecting" the Home Opener either with an off day. I assume that has something to do with it being a Friday, not that it can't rain on April 8.

ETA: Thinking harder (and checking), Mets skipped the off day after the Home Opener in year when they opened on a Friday, which hasn't been in a long time, but it's not unprecedented.

In 1997, they were going to Home Open on a Friday but when they realized the other NY team was doing that the same day (both started the season on the West Coast), they pushed their own opener to Saturday -- and were rained on for their troubles. Thus their Home Opener became a Home Opener Doubleheader with little fanfare (saving it up for Jackie Robinson Night) and two losses.

1997 would get better, but at 3-9 it started brutally.

I believe the Gwreck party will also be in Pittsburgh that weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

I've never participated in active hotel stalking but the last time I wound up staying at the same hotel (not deliberately) as the team, the hotel staff kept any obvious autograph seekers (ie. people holding bats, balls and the like) out of the lobby.

We won't be staying there but I hear the Westin Convention Center is the one you want in Pittsburgh.

Re: Mets Schedule 2011

So I still don't have my tickets for Friday and Saturday. What section should I be looking again?

Re: Mets Schedule 2011

If you have tickets for Mets-Cubs on September 11, Bob Raissman writes today:

ESPN is leaning toward airing the Mets Sept. 11 tilt with the Cubs on "Sunday Night Baseball."
