Galaxy .500

Mike Vaccaro's column in the Post today ([url]http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/amazin_ly_average_N3VyhCrGXUA4ZQW3kLoJRM) reminded me of the 2005 season when we faced historic mediocrity for a Mets team -- 27 separate points at .500, most ever.

This year we came from nowhere to shoot up the list to 3rd overall at 19 points, and last night's loss set the all-time record for contiguous points at .500 with 11. In other words, starting at 53-53, then being 54-54, 55-55 and so on to our current mark of 63-63. The old record was set by the 2005ers who were 37-37 up to 46-46.

Re: Galaxy .500

Bucket , am I reading your list correctly over at mbtn.net , 2005 the Mets were a .500 team at various points in the season 27 times......and down near the bottom of you list is 2006 where it only happened one time?

that's some turn around.

Nice work

Re: Galaxy .500

I remember discussing 2005 as the .500liest season ever.

Re: Galaxy .500

I wrote this in 2005:

When we win one, yes you know you're gonna see,
You're gonna see us get shut out a game or two
When we lose one, don't get too melancholy
Cuz you know we'll win the next game just for you

Cliff will hit one, in the tenth and jump for glee
And you'll be feeling really great about our crew
Then we'll go west, and we'll lose two out of three
To a last place team cuz that is what we do

And we will play 500 ball
Because we are a 500 team
We will win one, lose one, all year long
We'll make you smile, we'll make you scream

When we're winning, yes I know it's such a tease
Cuz when Pedro's on there's nothing we can't do
When we're losing, we keep piling up the E's
And leave you feeling really frustrated and blue

When you come home(When you come home), when you turn on that TV
You don't know which team will show up to play for you
And if you grow old, you know what it's gotta be
you know this team is prematurely aging you

And we will play 500 ball
Because we are a 500 team
We will win one, lose one, all year long
We'll make you smile, we'll make you scream

Sparkling.

Really, I just wish I had a schedule. Because I'd hat these guys-- and myself-- a lot less if I didn't pay to attend, say, 14-1 drubbings or not-quite-walkoffs.

Re: Galaxy .500

Funny, I don't remember the 2005 season's treading water act anywhere near as much as this season's incarnation has frustated me.

Re: Galaxy .500

It was around this point in 2005 where we pulled up ahead of 500 by a few games and hovered there till the year ended.

What's crazy about this year is having been 11 games over at one point and twice having win streaks of 8+ games, and still being so 500ish.

I don't recognize the song from that parody.

Link, please, to the real one.

Re: Galaxy .500

Keep in mind that some of us have laid out a C-note on this team.

"Some of us?" Like, multiple CPFers?

Was that from that one thread where Rawjahs went all ape-poopy playing devil's advocate and everyone ended up piling on?

Re: Galaxy .500

He brought up a Met enemy (maybe an MFY) as an example of some positive trait, then did a little self-loathing-Met-fan softshoe for a bit?

You know the one I mean.

Re: Galaxy .500

Oh, right, then he dug up the malicious history of villianous Mets that the rest of us all whitewash. See if you can find that one.

Re: Galaxy .500

Then there was that time he mistook the CPF for a call-in program on WFAN.

Re: Galaxy .500

Yeah, yeah... and then there were some accusations of our not wanting to hear/shutting out negative voices re: the Mets or Wilpons.

That one time.

Re: Galaxy .500

Chris Farley: O-kay.. remember.. you remember when you were with The Beatles, and you were supposed to be dead, and, uh, there was all these clues, that, like, uh, you played some song backwards, and it'd say, like, "Paul Is Dead", and, uh, everyone thought that you were dead? That was, um, a hoax, right?

Paul McCartney: Yeah. I wasn't really dead.

Chris Farley: Right.
