Gmail phone?

Has anyone tried this yet? Is there anything you can't do for free
on Google? The Blackberry Google maps GPS is just plain freaky.

Re: Gmail phone?

I've used it , I have had a google # for months now too. Calls to Ireland are only 2c a minute. I was able to dump AT&T's stupid connection fee and high per minute costs.

The calls I made through gmail were very crisp and clear.....thumbs up

US and Canada are free, not that I know anyone in Canada.
I think I'll get me a Google number just for the s's & g's ...

If you need a google number invite I can send you one....unless it's totally open now.

Several things I like about it....one is that I can send numbers straight to a "the google voice mail subscriber you called is not available" and if I mark any # as spam it gets a " this number not in service " message.

Re: Gmail phone?

I guess I need an invite ... I was able to call my cell phone which
was pretty cool but I can't receive calls I don't think.

(I PM'd you my gmail address, thanks)

Y9u use Blackberry right?

You can download the GV app and use it for your BB

http://www.google.com/mobile/voice/

the beauty here is that you can keep your own # and use the GV one too.....like i only use GV for International calls

Re: Gmail phone?

Anytime Kase.

A few things , in GV settings get yourself set up...for instance if you don't want to receive a text every time you miss a call, get a voice mail then uncheck that feature under " voice mail and text" , otherwise it will send a text to your actual #......on android for instance I can get a notification in my status bar that only uses data....if you SMS from the app using the GV # it shouldn't count against your mobile phone text plan...this area is a bit confusing though....google it to see what I mean....using SMS from the GV on your PC is totally free and counts against nothing....I have a limited text plan with AT&T so I need to watch that...

Re: Gmail phone?

I probably won't use the number too much, just figured if it's
free (for now) I'd get a number. Google is taking over the world.
Having a semi-secret internet number to use for the girlfriends
is neat too ... oh wait, did I just type that?

(j/k KB ... love you always xoxox)

Re: Gmail phone?

I just discovered the phone the other day. I figure it can't hurt to have an extra line available for those rare times that I need to keep the land line open (like when I'm house hostage, waiting for a repairman to call).
