Hi, Mr. Manuel? It's Mike Nickeas. It's been nine days since you've called my name and I was a little concerned you'd forgotten it. I'd like to get maybe my first hit out of the way or something.

or better yet, let Thole hit against a crappy LHP.
He needs some ABs against LHers if he's going to be our everyday catcher next year.
And while yer at it, Jerry, lets get Turner up at 2b.

This reads like one of those goofy e-mails you get in OOTP.

If the Pirates were the Mets it's pretty obvious what would happen here (bases loaded, Hessman up).

I believe I've figured out why the Pirates are in last place.

The word comeback is so strange to me.
But yea, much help from the Pirates.
I'll take it.

Nice Ka-Boom for Reyes. Even nicer to see him busting it out of the box and not slowing down until someone told him that it was out of the park.

8-5 good guys after 6.

Keith, broadcasting from the top row of Section 538, just suggested that a depressed Mets fan who wanted to end it all could easily do it from there....

Get those books out and put it in em.
That's 3 in a row.
That's something :)

We spank the Pirates tomorrow and then mess up the Braves season.
Knockin the Braves back 3 would be very satisfying at this point of this not so satisfying season.

Re: IGT - Mets v. Bucs, 9/15/2010

Willets has given us another big night. The Mets win is combined with two of the three teams in front of them in the division race having lost, and four of the five teams ahead in the Wild Card having lost as well, with the other one still in action (SF-LA, tied and scoreless in the fourth). The Mets' elimination number sits at four in the division and seven in the Wild Card. They get division oppenents in the next two series and four of the next five, so hopefully they can stave that off themselves a little.

What's more, Point has returned the Mets to .500 and returned $100 to my wallet.

Of course, tomorrow, the Mets face a pitcher who is 1-11, 9.05, so...

Re: IGT - Mets v. Bucs, 9/15/2010

I listened to the post game show on radio during my drive home from work. I tuned in during the end of Jerry's press conference. He was talking about Mejia's injury.
Then, I listened to Wayne Hagin give the out of town scoreboard, then the highlights of the game.
All the key (re)plays.
But, he never said if Davis was credited with a hit on the smash the "ate up" the Buc player.
Oh yeah, and he NEVER told us who was the winning pitcher.
NEVER.
Might be something we might want to know in a recap, eh Wayne?
Especially when we knew that the starter didn't go the requisite five innings.
Them whan I just got home and saw who it was, it made me wonder about this official scorer's personal definition of "Briefly and ineffectively". Why was the guy who won awarded the win? His performance that produced that line score was ineffective to me.
Did any of the announcers discuss that?

Re: IGT - Mets v. Bucs, 9/15/2010

Gary discussed "briefly and ineffectively" and relayed that he was told by the official scorer that Raul Valdes's 1-2/3 inning stint wasn't brief enough for it to be invoked.

On the legendary night at the end of June 2000 when the Mets scored ten runs in one inning, such judgment was rendered. Eric Cammack was the pitcher of record when the Mets trailed 8-1. He had pitched one inning and given up three runs. Then came the ten-spot. Though he was technically pitching in a save situation (and brought the tying run to bat), the win was credited to Armando Benitez for his scoreless ninth.
